Transforming a neoprene tail in a sequin tail

Okay,

I have been on this forum for a couple of years now and I love going through all the threads and comment once in a while (sorry, I'm a little shy)

So I made my first neoprene tail 4 years ago and I was really pleased with it but I knew I wanted a sequin tail from the start so I decided to transform my neoprene tail in a sequin tail. It was quite hard at the beginning because I spent so much time in my neoprene tail and I really loved my scale pattern.

But when I saw it transforming I was totally in awe and didn't regret my decision AT ALL

I found those sequins via a wholesale site from China but I can't find the link anymore, it's like they disappeared, I'll try to look them up.

I worked on that tail 8-12 hours a day the entire summer holidays and believe me, I had days I wanted to stop but I wanted that tail finished so bad I just kept on going. I sewed each sequin indivually on the tail and there are roughly 8000 sequins on that tail I think.

That sounds great!!! the sequins kinda stay flat on their own, I didn't have to do much to keep them flat, but I did sew them pretty close to each other so I guess that helps. :-)

There where 8000 sequins in one bag and I bought 3 bags. I also bought 4 shades of pink and white for my next sequin tail, but now I have a lot of the blue and gold sequins left so I'm considering to use them for another sequin tail that I can sell.

Sequins make the shiniest tails. Prettier than silicone even imo.

But 24000 sequins to sew...as much as I'd love to make one, that's just too much for my patience lol.

no not at all, and it's neoprene that's 5mm thick.

well, I tried a few and I think this one works the best: you stick your needle through the back of the fabric, toward you, then put the sequin on your needle and make a few loops back and forth through the fabric and finish with 3 knots.

How much neoprene did you have to cover, or like how long are your legs plus monofin? Cause I see you used 24,000... but I'm not covering my whole tail and I'm probably shorter than you, also considering I'm younger. Hahaha
Gorgeous tail though! I just love the sequins, and there aren't many FULL ones out there really. Everyone knows Hannah's though. Lol. They look like real scale, especially in person! Oh! By the way, here's my project, its going well so far and I only need $30 more to reach my MINIMUM goal for my project, but the more the merrier and if I could even reach $215-220 that be fantastic and enough to get myself a GroPro! Hehe

Thank you, first of all Mermaid Caspiana. My legs are not that long, I just created the illusion that they are, so I guess my legs plus the monifin are maybe 3 feet long (roughly estimated). Good luck with your project, I'm sure it'll be amazing!

Also, if you read the thread she said she only used 8,000 sequins. She ordered three bags of 8,000 for the colors but has a lot leftover... Hope that helps(:
