Anyone going? 56 days to go! I plan to wear my raptor costume (if it's done on time...gahhhhh, at this rate it will be very close) on Saturday and Sunday but on Friday I'll probably just wear my pizza John shirt since we need to scope out good break areas, bathrooms and such for the next two days. I also plan to enter the costume contest! I'd love to see mers while we're there, although I don't know for how long or anything. I'll be with my mum and sister.
Should probably mention it's in Orlando Florida, Orange County Convention Center (I believe second biggest in the country).

never heard of it but it looks cool. Sad that its so far since it looks like mega fun lol. I really want to go to dragoncon this year nearby in Atlanta though. A Raptor costume sounds cool. Is it a girl/raptor hybrid type costume or the realistic looking ones where you can only see the actors legs in black?

It's realistic, but you won't be able to see my own legs. I have the link in my signature for more info on the build. I LOVE MegaCon. It has a great mixture of all genres, I feel. Huge convention too--so big this year they're switching buildings!

I'm gonna be honest, I only just went to see your costume progress.
I am SUPER impressed, Em. That is just really fantastic.

dam... so far that's impressive. The fluidity of movement of the tail in your video is impressive. I saw that your using fabric for the skin but have you considered using fake snake skin? My big cosplay/costume project is making a realistic centaur costume for dragoncon/ren faire. Big thing i'm doing is trying to make the horse tail animatronic.

also never straighten your hair. I would die to have hair that curly.

Thank you, Dottie! The progress makes me SO excited for when it'll be done and I'll get to chase people around the halls in March, mwahaha. It's hot as hell already but I'll be grateful when I have the fan installed inside the head. xD

I'm using the spandex because it's super breathable, easy to work with and easy to airbrush too. I thought about using snakeskin of somekind but the patterning on it is really too small to be noticeable and I want to wear this costume for 6-8 hours at a time (with breaks of course, but I don't want to need to take it off). Monoyasha's raptor used a upholstery vinyl fabric for car interior but you really don't notice it until you're super close, like in this picture: http://www.flickr.com/photos/13785455@N05/6113528934/

Thank you! I love my hair too and I'm glad that I do. I don't have the patience to straighten it, ever. :P

Ah makes since. I can imagen using spandex cuts down on weight as well. Airbrushing looks cool. What were you going to do for the head? Sculpting all the teeth sounds tough but i'm sure It will look good. I can't wait to see the final raptor costume.

I adore your raptor costume Emma and wish so bad I would be there to see it! Maybe next year... I really want to see it in person. Cosplay is one if my favorite things in the world!

The head is being sculpted from Owens corning foam (pink insulation) and then I have 28 pounds of clay on top of it. I'm actually finishing the sculpt right now, and then it will be fiberglassed using fleece (think like for car speakers!). If all goes to plan then the jaw will move with mine as well, which is the best part about it I think!
I plan to wear the costume for years to come, so I would one day for you to see it! I hope it turns out as impressive as I think it will be. It's kind of nerve racking at this point. xD I've got another dinosaur costume of sorts planned although I probably won't get to bring it to life until college. Ish. It'll be a while at any rate. :P

Unfortunately the raptor wasn't done in time (sitting waiting for a panel as I type!) but at least this way I have plenty of time to get the optimal result and perfect the entire costume. Another year to work on it! Which is good, because the first two heads we made were too heavy. :P
I'll still be here all weekend--tomorrow I'll be in a Pizza John shirt (nerdfighter/John Green anyone?) and on Sunday a Jake shirt from Adventure time. My MerBella bracers should help you find me.

I will be going next year, but I haven't laid out which cosplays I'm doing.
Last year, I was Mia Fey (Ace attorney), and Rainbow Dash.
This year, if my tail is done by then, I'll be parading around in my tail in a wagon.
