Mermaid scale heels!!!!!

Hi everyone. I wanted to share something wonderful with you all!
Jessica made me some mermaid heels to wear to a wedding I will be attending (this weekend)!
After a lot messaging back and forth, I just got the heels in the mail and LOVE THEM! I randomly asked her if she would take on such a random project and she agreed!
They are the first pair she has ever done and the seams are not perfect, but I can over look that since they are her first pair and they fit wonderfully!

I'm sure they aren't the last pair.

I'm so glad you love them Ashton! They were so much more work than I expected, but a lot of fun to do! The seams are a bit rough :( you have to use silicone glue and it doesn't make smooth seams! I know how to do better next time though!

These were inspired by raven's pink pair!! :) After Ashton saw raven's she sent me an email about making her a pair :) I couldn't pass up the chance to try something new!

I'm planning to make myself a pair with a little heel, but not much! I would seriously kill myself in heels like that! Ballerina flats would be really cute too!

Yes, you can send me shoes! That's what Ashton did! :) she ordered hers online in a brand that she knew would fit and had them shipped to me. The material matters though...it took a bit of looking before Ashton found a style that would work!

pricing....they are a bit expensive to do because I have to order glue from smoothon. I have to think about pricing! They're really time consuming to do.....heels are so curvy that you literally have to sit and hold the scales in place while the glue dries!

You have to make sure they are fabric heels, Jessica told me to think like prom shoes and whatnot. I'm guess the glue gets in the fabric and sticks better.

Great minds think alike! I tried brushing silicone on shoes, but shoes are made of rubber :( Silicone won't cure near the sole and it didn't form a really good bond where it did cure in my tests :( since they're shoes, they really need to be sturdy so I thought the glue was the best bet :)

i tried all my clamps too! The work along the top edge, but where the shoe curves near the sole the clamps just slide! It was time consuming to sit and hold them while they dried!

Silicone wouldn't work for shoes themselves...the silicone would wear down pretty easily. You can kind of read other accounts of this when you search fursuit pawpads--they use silicone for them and they do wear down, and stick to the ground (think of those fuzzy socks with the rubber on the soles in shapes).

I do have an idea though- this site sells leather moccasins, with unlined neoprene rubber for soles. http://www.medievalmoccasins.com/Maybe I could do that or something similar. If you can't tell, I hate most shoes. If it wasn't so cold, I'd be hobbit-ing around right now. I literally wear flipflops all year round, and add socks in the winter :shame: I could always add some scales to the straps of flip flops I guess.

Silicone would not work well for the bottom of a shoe :(

it would get so dirty...everything sticks to silicone....and wouldn't give you hardly any protection if you were to step on something sharp like a nail. It would also get cut up or damaged easily on gravel or pavement. If you were just going to wear them around the house, that would probably be ok, but if you have carpet the bottom would constantly be covered in lint!

Scale shoes really aren't ideal for everyday wear.....more of a special occasion type of shoe! You would need to treat them carefully....just like a silicone tail :)

They faired really well at the wedding, got lots of compliments! They only got a bit dirty on the bottom edge- but it's nothing that can not be wiped off. The bottom of the shoe is Barely warn down. And I really didn't baby these shoes at all- only think I did do is travel with them in a shoe box.

All in all these scale shoes faired quite well even when man handled, danced in, walked around in, used as real shoes.

Make sure you use a shoe you know fits well!

i figured they would get a little dirty! Everything clings to silicone! I'm so glad they held up well!! I'm still amazed that you can walk in those! I would literally look like a mermaid walking on legs for the first time if I had heels on that high!

I just looked at the ebay shoes and I have to say that I am not as impressed as I was with mine. In my opinion those just look kinda frumpy. And some look more like snake skin than mermaid scales.

I prefer Ashton's mermaid scale heels because the color is more vibrant and shiny than Aurore's. It's prettier and perfectly made while Aurore's shoes need some improvement.

As for Aurore's scale heels.....I don't think that's silicone...latex maybe? I'm not sure but I'm pretty sure it's not dragonskin.

i would like to mention though.....scale shoes are difficult and very time consuming to do! I could have easily made two scale tops+ in the time it took me to do one pair of shoes! I'm really meticulous and I pay a lot of attention to detail though! :)

I was at Macy's and I saw a pair of those Calvin Kline shoes on clearance in my size! I love clearance cuz I have such huge feet (size 10.5 USA/42 EURO) and they always have my size! Lol
I'll post photos when I get home! Mermaid shoes are the way to go when it comes to office shoes! Lol
