So I've been a little obsessed with the Wall St protests.
I think it's a little messy since they're trying to cover so many issues, but I think that it's a good thing overall because it shows that people care enough to do something about it now.

I've got the livestream on almost all the time, even in class: http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution
(http://www.livestream.com/globalrevolution)And here's what they are there for: http://nycga.cc/2011/09/30/declaration-of-the-occupation-of-new-york-city/
(http://nycga.cc/2011/09/30/declaration-of-the-occupation-of-new-york-city/)
Here's a news article: http://www.alternet.org/newsandviews/article/674826/%22they%27re_arresting_us_one_by_one%22%3A_700_thr own_in_jail_as_wall_st._protest_grows_--_labor_declares_support/

I love how this is world-wide as well and its non-violent.

According to the livestream Wednesday's gonna be real big.
Hopefully they're making history out there.

If any of you NY mers can let me know what's up first hand that'd be totally awesome. :)
... Man I wish I was being arrested/holding out with them right now. Anyone else realize yet how big this is?

I don't know the details but I totally agree that this is a hugely important protest. I really hope it goes on for as long as possible and gets lots of attention, because the influence of these companies is a serious problem. I don't object to companies or financial institutions being huge and having crazy amounts of money- I object to the fact that they're way to influential in politics and they're subverting democracy. I'm really cynical about the ability for it to be reformed though. Collectively their money and political power they hold in America is on the scale that say, Hosni Mubarak had in Egypt (I'm not comparing their activities to a violent dictator, just their amount of influence over the lives of the people), so just imagine how big a protest would have to be to actually enact any change.

Thanks for making this thread though.

there's a media blackout here so I have no idea what it's about everything I read says something different

This is wild. I know some people will say that it will have no effect, but its not as though each single protest is meant to change the system. Not to be idealistic, but the direction of our society is influenced by the frequency and size of events such as these. The picture of the pilots was pretty awesome.

I am so happy to see the grassroots Occupy Wall Street movement! We had one in Hawaii this week, and it really felt good to rally support. The oil barons have been messing with us for too long, and now they know that we're no longer apathetic to their ways. If nothing else, the Occupy Wall Street sends a clear message to the money-changers: we know who you are and we know what you're doing.

There are Occupy Wall Street rallys going on in many places and you can find out more at: occupywallstreet.org

There's also an Occupy Facebook rally happening on Oct. 11 in support of the rallys.

Just showed up yesterday for the beginning of Occupy Atlanta. I definitely want to get involved with this as much as my schedule will permit. By the way, what do you guys think the demands should be?

i am really proud of anonymous for putting the protests together in the first place.
It took long enough for people to jump on the wagon but it's great to see the people have finally woke up. lol

I'm not sure where you are receiving your information from, but from what I know about Occupy Wall Street, Anonymous was not the group in charge of the demonstrations, but rather a Canadian group called Adbusters. Nonetheless your message about waking up the people is still valid. :)

My only real concern I have is that there are too many issues the demonstrations are focusing on, so I'm not sure how many of their demands will actually be met. I mean, I would rather have the subjects be more broad to get the attention of more people, but am a little concerned on how well the messages will be conveyed. Of course, they may still do all this amazingly and smoothly and I could just look like I have no idea what I'm talking about (which has been happening pretty often).

I agree with most of the grievances listed here: http://nycga.cc/2011/09/30/declaration-of-the-occupation-of-new-york-city/
I (http://nycga.cc/2011/09/30/declaration-of-the-occupation-of-new-york-city/) also think they came up with a cool system to voice what the individual people agree and disagree on (the hand signals).
In the case of my personal opinion I would like to concentrate on demands pertaining to food production (over fishing, pesticides, chemicals, etc), health insurance, faulty products (including endocrine disruptors and the like), sustainability in general, and media reform although I recognize that other things like student debt and worker safety are just as important. There are also a ton more problems that they are protesting but aren't officially listed in that link.

... also water. That shouldn't be a commodity. What's with that.

So how are the occupations in your cities going? Mine's going alright, but we have some internal conflict between different ideologies.

See, that's the problem. None of the protests have the same goals. It's sort of like get organized or go home.

In Austin it's crazy. We have women running around with out tops on, I've heard of a case or two of rape, they are verbally abusing people on the streets. It's pretty bad.
