This is a bit of a two-parter

I was just curious if anyone out there wore anything in their day to day stuff that was sort of... mermaid-ey?

Personally, my clothes and my style have always been a little nautical but the increased amount of turquoise and blues in my wardrobe has sort of gone up since I started putting real consideration on working on a mermaid tail and I have a lot of shell and starfish hair clips that have been getting more daily wear and pearls have made more appearances. oh also:

17925

My friend got me that shirt a while back. It gets a bit more wear than it did now.

Part 2 I guess is does anyone have ideas of some good off-duty mer style? I'm just curious now. Have you come across something that reminds you of the sea? I think it'd be fun to share some of our fishy fashion finds.

Oh god I just said that. I'm sorry, that was cheesy -dies-

I am currently saving for a tail, so no mer clothes yet although I have "liked" hundreds of stuff on etsy that I plan to buy after my tail :P I do have a ton of mer themed jewelry and accessories though :)

Oh, yeah! Anything scaley. There were some dresses and skirts at wal mart a while back that were scaled, and of course I had to have them.
I also wear seashells and things in my hair a lot when I go out. I love pearls (especially freshwater) and I wear them as earrings or necklaces, and I have a silver starfish cuff bracelet my sis-in-law gave me, and my mom got me the most amazing purse for christmas. I guess it's designer, but I couldn't care less. It's gorgeous and covered in fish, and it's ENORMOUS so I can fit all my kiddos extras in with my stuff, or take it to the pool with my towel and everything. I also had a way cute idea for a boho seaweed headband that I might make.
So yeah, anything mermaidy, I'll wear it out in public. :D

Ooooh, I'd love to see how the Boho seaweed headband turns out!

I'm working on my spandex tail (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?6933-Miyu-s-POTC-inspired-fabric-tail), and hope to make the leftovers into some leggings. I. LOVE. LEGGINGS.

I'm also working on finishing up a fairy kei/lolita salopette dress made out of vintage The Little Mermaid sheets... Just picked up some perfect ribbon and buttons today, the last things I needed, so now to start playing with my sewing machine (I'm tired of hand sewing now, LOL)!

I also have the pieces cut out for a mermaid-y peplum skirt that I plan to wear both in tail and out (and it looks cute with the above dress, I think). It's a seafoam-coloured vintage(ish?) lace fabric, but it is SO SOFT <3. Not scratchy like a lot of lace fabric I find these days, and a decent pattern to it.

I wear the same jewelry/hair accessories to the store as I do when "being a mermaid".

I'm also making crochet scaled footwarmers! I'm offering them for my "fundraiser" now, but they'll become a regular item in my shop once I raise the money I need!

I'm a corporate mermaid. So my office attire consists of a lot of turquoise, blues and greens, and mermaid bling. I do also have pink orange and purple mermaid tops so it's not strictly "blue-only"

I'm using my iPhone at the moment and have posted photos while using the iPhone. I do not use tapatalk, so if you use safari and do the whole reply to thread thing and then click the button with the box around the picture of the tree, then it will ask you to upload a picture. Click the choose file button under "from your computer" and it should take you to your camera roll. Then choose one. A lot of times the picture is too big and you'll have to crop the heck out of it beforehand :P

Casual Office attire

18013180141801518016180171801818019

Most of these clothes I bought at Forever 21 and Urban behaviour/ Urban planet/ Sirens. two of them are from adorkable apparel. the seashell top i actually have 2 versions of that top (one for sleeping/ summerwear, the one in the picture for office and winter wear)

and i always wear these with black jeggings because my legs are sensitive and i hate jeans&dresspants :( . usually i wear black/brown or grey knee length boots because its winter now :( in normal weather i wear black or gold flats.

Pearls were given to me as gifts. i actually don't buy pearls because of the way they're obtained ._.

SeaGlass, those are really cool pieces, I love the nautilus-looking necklace, in particular. I don't have many pieces of my mermaidier stuff so here are some awkward pictures from my facebook that have some of my mermaidier outfits. They also coincidentally are days I curled my hair, go figure.

18041
Excuse the room, this was a photo from when I was moving out of my apartment. For some reason I can't use the "upload from my computer" option so these are shitty facebook photos. But yeah, a lot of nautical stripes appear in my wardrobe, and I have a sort of infamous starfish hair clip that I wear A LOT.

18042
From this past weekend at the aquarium, I don't know why crochet feels ocean-ey mermaid-ey to me but teals are also making more of an appearance in my wardrobe

18043

Also for a short period of time, my hair was blue. But that was also for an event I was working. Seriously, my hair isn't naturally curly, I just only found pictures where they were.

ok so i hopped back onto the computer again.
18104 this was from a 2013 Yule ball (harry potter Yule ball to be specific. i got this dress from Guess by Marciano :P)
18106 again, corset top from Sirens/Urban Planet
18108 i forgot where i got this top from, but i think my mom bought it for my birthday.
18109 this top i got at bluenotes, but it was too see through so i often wear it with my swim suit and use it as a beach top.
18110 for all the lolitas out there.. yes i have a lolita dress. baby the stars shine bright "the little mermaid" dress

SeaGlass Siren
02-02-2014, 10:52 AM
18111 urban behaviour.
18112 urban behaviour.. it kinda reminds me of ariel's pink dress
18113 this one is an outfit inspired also by ariel when she just washed up on the beach with her legs, when scuttle was telling her to wear ship sails lol
18114 this has a really nice back. reminds me of ariel's blue dress and vanessa's/ursula's blue dress. i usually wear this dress with my nautilus necklace :P

Mermaid Clarity
02-02-2014, 01:53 PM
Those are awesome dresses. I especially like the one-shoulder one and that lolita dress is amazing, I want it, and I'm not even a lolita. I really want that fabric.

I'm also having problems uploading from my computer. It'll let me choose the file but it won't give me the option to upload. Weird.

I Love love love that last dress, SeaGlass.
Where did you get it?

Miyu
02-02-2014, 02:28 PM
:swoon: All the pretties!!!

Seaglass, I love everything you've posted, LOL! But especially that last set, I *LOVE* the pink dress - that is right up my alley and now I must make one! I also adore that blue dress :) And ooh! That see-through blue top! OMG love. But most importantly...

ASDF That Baby dress.... OMGGGGGGGG so pretty <3

Pearls are my birthstone (one of them, I have 3 birthstones), so I often get them as gifts, but I only buy glass pearls, for various reasons... real pearls are SO DELICATE, for starters, so I tend to not use them in any jewelry that may be used for mermaiding.

I've also noticed a drastic increase in the amount of blue things and beachy things in my wardrobe since I discovered mermaiding... My wardrobe normally consists of pinks, browns, greens, and blacks :P The funny thing is, I don't buy clothes! All my mermaid-y clothes have been from either the "free stuff" bookshelf at my local corner store, or gifts (mostly from Morticia, LOL).

Photos of the scale footwarmers can be seen on my fundraiser thread: http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?7156-Yet-another-fundraiser-Lots-of-perks-available!-%28For-a-good-cause%29 . There should be new pics up tomorrow, I'm finishing off the second of Morti's pair right now ;)

Hmm, I shall have to take some pics of my off-duty mermaid wear to flood the thread with... :p

Nice!

Don't wear dresses much, I'm a jeans and T-Shirt person. Most of my clothes are different shades of blue, green, floral patterned, but nothing too bright. The floral shirts are muted colors, so its soft looking.

I think it smells really nice. Clean smelling, but not like febreeze. More slightly fruity, a little bit like 21 black.
