Not started yet obviously, but I'm full of excitement and ideas :)
I think I'll complete it this summer but I'm looking for monofin (I need it for my fabric tail too) and molding materials from now, because I'd want to start to make my fluke soon as possible (molding materials are very cheap, lol).
For scales I was thinking to put a metal grating on the clay because I have no time and spacee for a mold box xD

I'm opting for the first design.

Has to be glued in. It doesn't work like a fabric tail where you can leave the bottom open or a neoprene tail where you can put a zipper in the bottom to take it in and out.

For stability, the fin must be completely encased. Full silicone flukes weigh a lot, in fact, most of the weight of your silicone tail will be the fluke - and while in water it might not cause a huge problem, once out of water you'd have a lot of problems because the silicone will weigh so much and have no structural support because it's not glued to the monofin, so it will flop over. And that'll be about 10-12 kilos of uncontrolled rubber, which can throw your back out or hurt your legs.
