MER-KING TAIL SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST

18435

Ocean activism and conservation has always been the heart of NC Merfest. In 2015, we will be taking it a step further with our very first Tail Scholarship Contest. From now through the end of this year, your goal will be to champion the cause of the ocean and its wildlife, spread awareness and Mer-magic, and make a difference for the cause. At the end of the year, you will compile your efforts into a 90 second video and submit it to the Mer-King for judging.

The winning video will be shown at the Masquerade Ball on January 3rd, and followed by a brief speech by the winner on their efforts. They will also receive $2500 towards a tail, which will be made out to the tail maker of their choice. How would you start? Try volunteering at your local aquarium.

Pick an ocean conservancy or charity like Sirenian International, donating time and effort towards their activities. Deal with a lot of kids? Teach and engage them with ocean themed activities, or sponsor an aquarium trip with them. Places like the Sea Shepherds and their cove guardians are always looking for volunteers.

The possibilities are endless. And you have a year to make a difference! Individual entries only. Deadline for all submissions is December 31, 2014.

PS - This title will come with a crown and a sash that will elevate you to the level of Mer-Royality!

Can people of all countries take part to it?

You should probably edit the title and spell "Scholarship" correctly.

As a stickler for spelling I approve of pointing out typos. Title fixed.

Actually it's a little funny that we're so preoccupied with how scholarship is spelled that no one has pointed out that's its being used incorrectly. Since the reward doesn't go toward the recipient's education, I don't think its actually a scholarship. But that's pretty nitpicky. What's important is that they're promoting conservation and environmentalism like this. That's really awesome.

Right now, it says, "Content unavailable' at that link. eta- I'm not currently a member of the NC Merfest Group, is that where the link leads? Could be why I can't access it.

Hmm I see that, then in that case if you arent in the group I suggest asking christomer questions here: https://www.facebook.com/MermanChristomer?fref=ts because I don't see him on the forum very often.

That's why I posted the content instead of just linking to the post- I know Christomer was forced to make the group "closed" and not everyone is in it. I think the new rule is you have to be 16 to be in the group, otherwise pretty much anyone is approved. But yeah, I have no idea about answers- you'll have to ask ChristoMer :)
