Hello! I've been lurking around on mernetwork for quite a while now, but never consistently visited until recently, so I figured it was high time I introduce myself and start to integrate myself into the community!

My name's Melina, I spend 90% of the year living in Savannah GA and the other 10% in western Kentucky. I started my mermaid journey last June. I've always always always wanted to be a mermaid and had been obsessively stalking the mer-journey's of people like Mermaid Linden, Hannah Mermaid, and Raina Mermaid for years. I decided to jump in and bought myself a monofin for my 20th birthday and never looked back!

To be honest I feel 100x more at home in the water with my monofin than without it. About a month into monofin-swimming I began construction of my first tail, a sequined fabric-based tail (there are some early photos of it pre-sequins, and some pictures from my first test swim in it on my profile). The process has been slow going, as I'm a full time art student who also has an on campus job so my spare time is few and far between, but I'm hoping to have the sequin tail finished my the end of this summer.

In the meantime, I just purchased a MagicTail (AND IT SHOULD BE HERE FRIDAY I'M SO EXCITED) so I can begin working towards doing children's parties/small events this summer. It's the first summer I've spent home since I've been in college, so I plan on utilizing every minute of it!

I've had a blast just hobby mermaiding this past year and am really excited to make it a bigger part of my life!

I also want to eventually branch out into trying to make my own silicone tail, but that will have to wait for a while longer.

I normally take the monofin out and hose it down or hand wash it in the bathtub and when the chorine smell is out, I lay it out to dry. :) There's probably other ways to do it, but that's what I do. I'm so excited for you ! :D

I take the monofin out and I put the fabric in the bathtub with some water and mild soap. I let it there for a few hours to take the chlorine smell out and then I rince it with cold water. After that, I lay it out to dry. It works perfectly.

I think on the website it says "machine washable". obviously take the monofin out haha but magictail skins are basically like bathing suits which are completely machine washable. I can't wash mine in the machine because I added things to it but if there's nothing on it that would catch you should be fine :) I would email kristen soller, the maker of magictails. She gets back to you super quick!

Hi, and welcome. I'm also new here (like you, I've also spent quite a while lurking in the damp shadows).
