hi guys
I am currently in the process of peeling all the latex off my fish butts mermaid tail and need to know how much silicone I need in grams to redo the scales and the Fluke.
can anyone help please?
Thank You
Sam

Are you sure the tail was latex? I see potential curing problems if you try to put silicone on something that was/maybe still is saturated with latex. Silicone doesn't like other kinds of rubber :(
I'm just trying to get some clarification before any other details.

I thought that might be the case, too.
In general, a gallon of silicone (usually a bit more) is enough for a tail, but TEST before you do anything over a latex tail! It might not cure at all and that would be an expensive mistake!

When you say a gallon of silicone, do you mean the "Dragonskin 1 Gallon Unit" that smooth-on sells? Cause when the company says that, they mean that there is one gallon of each of the two parts you mix.
The actual amount you get when you buy the "1 Gallon Unit" is actually two gallons. I'm not sure whether most people are aware of that.

That's what I mean, but it's the gallon sized bucket, it's not filled completely, and it's approximate. You don't get a whole two gallons...

I really do not recommend trying to use platnium cure silicone to redo a tail that had latex on it.....silicone is really some picky stuff and it doesn't cure around latex :(
have you thought about trying some monster makers latex? It's good stuff and doesn't have the cure inhibition issues that silicone has....and it's cheaper too! Star, Emma and julz have all made beautiful tails with it and it's skin safe (as long as you don't have a latex allergy)
good luck! :)

Yeah the monster makers latex does a really great job! It's not silicone by any means, but it's cheaper and looks nice!

The smooth on website says the total quantity is 16 lbs, which is a little less than 2 gallons of water (16.7 gallons). Although I'm not sure what the density uncured silicone is, or if 16 lbs is the shipping weight and includes the weight of the buckets.

Thanks, Malinghi!
The tail I'm currently working on isn't typical, and so far it's taking about a quart more than a gallon set. Jazz or as Jessica could probably give a better estimation.

Thanks for the advice guys, Think I might try the monsters, but i am only stamping it with chicken wire nit msking s scale mould so i doubt i will need as much as 2 gallons worth. I was planning on stripping the tail then washing it but your right Silicone might nit be the best idea.
Also jessica do you do international orders I love your tails and thinking about ordering one in the next few moths. I am a mermaid in London.
