Custom monofin from pvc office floor mat

Hi.

Has anyone made a monofin from a pvc office floor mat?

I mean the hard plastic covering that you put under your desk and chair.

I've got one and I tried bending a corner flat to see if it would break, it didn't!

Is it doable or is the chlorine going to have a feast?

The thing is that those office mats won't push you through the water at all. They're super floppy. You want something that's very stiff to give you lots of power but will return to its original shape and not shatter.
You can choose to use this material, but it will not work well as a monofin.

Also I think this question has been asked before. Try doing a search next time you have a question to see if someone has already posted about it :)

I had tried looking into this last year... But to get a sheet thick enough to provide decent propulsion you'd need to spend roughly the same as for an actual monofin (and for the good-quality materials, you could just buy a Hydra clear monofin anyways, LOL).

Another thing to think about is that plastics are not always made with multiple uses in mind - the vast majority of vinyl products you'll find out there (and things I've seen on other tails) are not meant to soak in pool water, and can release all the nasties they're made of (sometimes even lead!), which can react negatively with the pool water you're swimming around in, and hurt the fishies, if you ever swim in nature :(

...Of course I figure this all out *after* I buy a decent-sized roll of heavy-duty vinyl sheeting for my fluke... Now I don't know what to do with it! >.<

Yea I started thinking last night...

Buy plastic sheet, buy booties, find someone who has that kind of saw, buy bevellers, bolts etc.

Too much buying and it would cost the same as a proper ready made monofin.

You could try making tail pads with them. Rig it up in squares so that it can be folded, and instead of towel, you sit on the sheeting and put on your tail.
