Not under the sea, but Australia!
Hello C: I'm Romy, all the way from Melbourne!
While I've always liked merfolk it was only two years ago that I started really drenching myself in the community. I have really varied interests, though my main hobbies all involve dress ups!
I love the freedom that comes with being someone else, even if just for a day. I cosplay heaps and find it really freeing and it helps me make friends easier. I was really excited to find this forum because I think my friends are starting to get pretty sick of listening to me gush about mermaids and swimmable mertails and all of that, haha.
I don't have a tail yet but I'm looking at a few tail-makers and while I'd REALLY love a Merbellas tail I have my doubts about buying a silicone tail as my first tail. Anyone have any suggestions for a good starter tail?
Anyway, hi again!

Welcome Romy! :D
Well, about the tail, I' don't advice silicone as first, if you have never swam in a tail. We all suggest to start with a fabric one: materials are cheap, it's easy to make and it's very comfortable in the water :)

Welcome! What do you cosplay as? And I agree with Mermaid Claudia - I don't have a tail yet either, but silicone ones can be very heavy and hard to get used to even if you have swum in tails before. Fabric ones are inexpensive, you can make it yourself or buy it if you don't want to make one, and it will get you used to swimming in a whole new style. They're lightweight, too. Anyways, welcome to the forums!

Hello Romy! If you don't want to make your own tail, the magictails are really popular. They have a nice fluke shape and a cool scale pattern.
Fabric tails aren't as popular as the silicone tails right now, but they can be just as gorgeous!

I've cosplayed about 20 different characters! But some of my favs are Rogue [from Wolverine and the X-Men], Newt from Pacific Rim, Mindfang from Homestuck, so many things! I just love dressing up. I also have a pretty decent closet of lolita, which I adore <3

Welcome to MerNetwork, Romy! If you're looking for a fabric tail, you could consider tails by Mermaid Citrine (https://www.facebook.com/MermaidsofHawaii?ref=ts&fref=ts). Her tails come with detachable monofins, so you can practise without the fabric if you need to (that's if you don't have much experience swimming in a tail). All the best for choosing your tail! :)

Woo! Go Rogue! :) I know what the other two are too, but I have a particular affinity for comic book characters. I wonder how/if this hobby of yours will cross into mermaiding - could be very fun and interesting! I'm excited to have you around the boards, welcome once again.

Well there was an intention to cosplay one of Ariel's sisters but I'm thinking of getting a green/teal fabric tail first and using that for Ariel stuff because it's gonna be WAY lighter than a silicone one. And part of me really wants to do mermaid versions of my favourite characters if I can get around to it C:
Thanks, you guys are all super nice and welcoming! I'm really excited to have found this place :3
