So while I am waiting for my Merbella tail, I have been making all kinds of stuff. I got my neoprene the end of last year and finally started working on it. I started painting it the other day. I am not a good painter so it is quite a challenge for me..especially blending the colors and figuring out what looks right. LOL. It is not perfect, but I don't think it came out too bad. I started the fluke last night and it came out nothing like I envisioned, but I think I will just leave it for now. Getting a bit tired of the whole thing..and I want to make one for my daughter now too. Here are some progress pics.

Not too bad! Are you crazy? It looks great! What type of paint did you use if you don't mind me asking? It's so shimmery and metallic!

I almost did! blue is my favorite color, but that was my color scheme for the tail I ordered, so I want to wait and see the colors in that first. :)

I used the Jacquard lumiere and neopaque paints. the front blue part was regular folk art acrylic paint with a clear glitter top coat. Not sure how it will hold up though. I was going to redo that part w/ the Lumiere paint, but didnt feel like re-blending it again. LOL

Thank you. About how much paint did you have to use on the whole tail? 5 bottles? 10? 20? (And yes I am aware you obviously had to use multiple bottles to do multiple colors.)

I originally bought 1 gold, 4 pink, 4 purple. I used 1/2 the gold, almost 2 of the pink. 3 of the purple. Then realized my last purple bought, I got neopaque instead of lumiere, so I made another trip to the store and got 2 more purple, plus some white and a pink pigment powder and blue pigment powder. I also got a teal and another pink neopaque. I used tiny bits of those though..just to add a couple subtle color changes.
That sounded confusing..LOL...1/2 gold, 2 pink, almost 4 purple, white pearl.* I would def. get more than 1 bottle of the white pearl next time. I am almost out. So you could over estimate 10 bottles, but you probably wont use all the color up. Keep in mind I also used the purple for my shell bra....so when I started my tail, I was already down 1/2 a bottle. Hope this helps :)

Thank you. That gives me a much better estimate on how much paint to buy when I make my tail.

I will continue to make them for myself and my daughter, but have no plans to sell anything. This was a challenge enough..LOL :) if you have any questions about the process though, feel free to ask
