Tail storage?

So I am going to start on my second tail + have one commissioned and I need a place to store these guys, I also have minimum space my room is a former office. I was thinking of doing a underbed shelf pull out thingy, but I am pretty much stuck. Help?

Well two are latex and the other is going to be silicone. I've tried over the door hook hangers but they left a huge dent in the neoprene and I didn't want it to wear.

I usually slide my tail under the bed using cardboard. It's a good temporary fix, but I was wondering what other people do to store their full silicone tails. Where do you guys keep yours?

if you have a hanging guitar wrack, you can switch the spot for the neck with the spot for the base and it'll usually hold a tail up by the monofin without damaging it.

Good idea! But doesn't the scale part strech out by hanging down for a longer time? Not that it would bother me because one of my tails is a little short ;-)

It shouldn't. Hanging it is typically only a problem if you hang it and create stress points on a bad place. Like for instance hanging it over a hanger will make a stress point the point of the body where it folds over the hanger, and can create permanent creases, stretching in that area, and generally a weak spot.

I know Raven and Karil both use the guitar wracks for their tails and hang them fluke up :) If you're worried, wrap the prongs in something soft (or slide disks of cut up pool noodle perhaps) and check on the stress spots every week and make sure it's not making any indentations or anything.

Hubby and I are going scouting for these in town today becuase he's tired of me using his punching bag as a drying wrack (towel then fluke on top, body hanging down) and it taking up space on his study room floor (aka his man cave) when it's dry. Which is understandable, I just don't have anywhere to put it haha. So I'll let you know if and where I find something suitable :)

I'm planning on kind of making a hammock out of netting and putting something green and soft so the netting doesn't hurt my tail in any way and hanging my tail on the wall. Once I get the tail and actually do it I will take a picture.

Found a lot of options at Home Depot! Best part, the hooks I got were less than cheap and both have a 25lb working weight.

You can also see I got dry wall screws - you MUST USE these if you have dry wall or it will just not hold or even rip out some of your dry wall; regular non dry wall screws or nails in dry wall can only hold about 5lbs- and some pipe insulation. I went for the insulation cause it was less than $3 and it's much smaller in thickness than pool noodle (so it will still be a curve when it's put on).

I made this a couple years ago when I wanted something to hang my tail up inside my closet door. Foam pipe insulation was definitely utilized. The plastic hanging down things were meant to be kind of a 'sling' to support the monofinless-fin, which at the time I felt needed supporting, but I never got that design quite right. By now, it's been in there probably close to three years and it hasn't fallen apart or warped horribly from being flopped over, so I probably won't update it, even though I have a good idea about it now.

Ideally I wanted the four upright pieces to be holding the fin up between the padding, but I was limited by 1) width of PVC T-joints and 2) How difficult they proved to cut. At one point I considered bit with springs to bridge the gap but...come on, springs? I love overly-complicated designs as much as anybody, but even I have my limit. Back then I assumed the tail was pretty fragile...now I know better, especially after Mermaid Parade when the 'normies' kind of beat the crap out of it trying it on but you'd never know to look at it.

There's a little bit of pinching right at the very top where the leading edge sits on the top...you can kind of feel where the silicone is smooshed out to the sides a little, but I don't think it's a big deal....would probably be a lot worse without the slanted bits though. The socks help, though...that's what those are for, if you were wondering.

Sorry I forgot to update this! I was going to make a tutorial on how to put up the hooks, but my hubby surprised me and did it while I was out of the house (he's so sweet).

For drying, I hang my tail (fluke) up between a chain covered in a thick plastic tube so it does not damage the tail. When it's dry I storage my tail flat. I have an extra bathroom upstears where I can store my tail stuff etc, next to the crafting room. ^^

awesome ideas! I need to find better storage ways for my tails since my tail room is now becoming a nursery. My friend had an idea to build a netting system to go on the ceiling of my guest room with pulleys so I could bring them down whenever I want, they would be out of reach of my daughter's hands when she can walk around, and they would be decorative without being in the way. Of course I couldn't put them up there when they're wet, that would be gross. Hm. Will let ya'll know what I come up with.

Iona that is such a good hanger! How is the stress and wear levels on the fluke?
I tried moding a generic target rack and it make crazy impressions on my fluke and since it hung over the door my tail hit the ceiling!

Since the hooks are positioned to work with the curve of the fluke, and also have foam cushioning, I haven't seen any pressure indentations on my fluke. I looked at it closely and it doesn't seem to put enough pressure on it to do that. I'm keeping an eye on it though :)

Also I know Raven uses this kind of hanging storage for her tails too. There are photos of it somewhere.

In a previous post I have made the tail stand below to dry my tail after swimming.

With the tail stand, I have not noticed any areas on the silicone where the pvc pipe has done any damage of any sort. I store my tail flat on the bed in spare bedroom. If there is any moisture left I take a towel and dry that and then let it rest as needed.

My stand can be disassembled and the velcro straps are then used to hold all the pieces together for transportation. Anything that is horizontal has been glued together so that when assembled the weight of the tail will hold everything vertical down. And my hope is in a little while be able to use some of the pieces to create a cage like structure to place over my tail in a suitcase when travelling by air. Hope that helps.

Since my tail is silicone I dry the inside out with towels. I do put a towel under the tail just in case there's any additional water that was hiding in the crevices of the foot pockets.
