So something dawned on me while I was at the pool: I can't swim underwater with my eyes open.

It's not just the chlorine, either; yes, it stings after a while, but my eyes are so bad without my glasses that even with my eyes open all I see is a blurry blue... notawholelotness. It never really occurred to me just how bad my eyes actually are.

I've been thinking of getting contact lenses for a while, and I think it would help while I'm in the pool as long as I was wearing goggles, since, y'know, contacts + underwater = ... not a good idea. I'll also admit that I kind of rely heavily on swimming goggles in the first place, as I'm still dealing with some anxiety about being fully submerged in water (long story short, I fell off a pier when I was a kid and nearly drowned, so when it comes to being in water above my head I get nervous) and the problem goes away pretty much altogether when I'm wearing a pair.

So I was thinking: has anyone ever tried making/re-purposing a pair of goggles to look more mermaid-y? Like seaweed straps, netting, bits of shells and things... I think it would be a neat idea, and not even that difficult to do, either! I've seen lots of pictures and videos of mers swimming in their tails with basic swimming goggles, but I haven't seen anyone using a pair that was made to look like "authentic" mermaid goggles.

Erk, and it only just dawned on me that there's a whole bunch of threads about this subject already... OOPS. That's what I get for posting at 4:30 in the morning and not thinking to do a search first. XD;; Disregard me!
