So a few days ago while in the dollar store I found a bunch of bamboo bushes hanging in the floral section, which turned into me deciding to make my first top.

These are my supplies, two bamboo bushes and this weird ball thingy. I also used a bunch of faux pearls that I have hanging around the house from other cosplay projects, and an old bra that is actually a touch too small. But as any good cosplayer knows, a smaller cup size means you get more cleavage. lol. I was going to wait until I could get my hands on some E6000 but I wound up getting impatient and started hand sewing it all on. In the end that might wind up being more secure anyway. i was originally going to use two lionpaw shells I have on the cups, but as I got started I loved the bamboo shoots alone I kind of forgot about the shells. lol But since I have koi fish tail anyway, and they tend to live in ponds as opposed to the ocean I think it works well anyway.

I started at the top edge near my strap and worked my way down to the center overlapping and sewing the bamboo shoots on.

One finished cup! After that I used the sprigs off the weird ball thing to do the straps.

Mostly finished one side with the pearls added.

This is the center of the bra where the cups meet.

Dollarama, not sure if you'll have it in the states.

Believe it or not this is normal dollar store stuff in Canada.

And thanks to everyone else! I was a little nervous of if it looked good or not. Glad to hear it's getting there! I can't wait to post pictures when I have my photoshoot at the end of the month.

Most dollar stores in my area seem to only have junky fake flowers and no greenery worth mentioning. It looks like you found the same stuff available at Hobby Lobby for 10-15 bucks.

Looking forward to seeing it finished!

Thanks guys! I almost have the other cup covered, and when it's done I'll likely post pics of it actually on me!

Oh, I love it! Soft looking, although I know it's kind of pokey. I love the pearls!

Terrible iPod picture with my dirty mirror! lol But it's done! And it is very pointy. Hopefully I'll have better pictures after my photoshoot at the end of the month.

Looks cool. Since I'm not right on the beach, I've wanted to make a Largemouth Bass tail. Something like this (if you don't mind) would be perfect for it.

Go for it! It's not like I hand carved, casted and painted the thing to be one of a kind. I just sewed some weeds to a bra. lol Besides I'm sure you'll add your own spin to it anyway and they'll wind up looking different in the end.

Very pretty. Very natural looking. you did a great job :) And yes, sewing is MUCH better then gluing. yes it takes more time and it is harder work, but its more flexible and shapes to the body better. Did I mention MUCH more comfortable to wear as well?

Great work! Beautiful top! Cheers!

Oooo a fresh water mer! I can't wait to see what you come up with. I have been contemplating a new top design for River and lake mermaids out there!
