I've been studying making a silicone tail (dragon skin) for a while now. I have a few designs sketched. I am going to buy a sample size of dragon skin for some proof of concept tests before I buy a bunch of the stuff. My problem isn't unique, but could be uncommon.
I am fairly tall, 6'3" to be exact. The majority of my height is in my legs. From tip of my toes (when pointed) to my waist is a distance of 46-47 inches. I have a skinny build, 34-35 waist, but my leg length concerns me. I keep reading that 2 orders of dragon skin should be enough to cover a tail, but if I am going to make a proportionally large fluke, I may need more than 2 orders. I don't want to run out and have to worry about ordering more. How much silicone should I get to make such a long tail?
My monofin is a Finis Rapid, fluke will be just a smidge wider at the end.

I'm thinking you should be fine with 2 orders. I'm only 5'4" but I'm pretty round ;) and I've been testing and making my tail, using silicone with impunity, and I still have an untouched gallon set. I will be using it to make my fluke, and fastening my scales to my leg mannequin. And I seriously doubt I will use the entire thing.
You might ask Jessica or Jazz or some other network mers for more specifics, though.

I do know, playing around with 'fake ordering' on smooth-on's website (going all the way until they start to ask for payment info, then backing out), it doesn't cost very much more on shipping to make two separate orders if you do run out midway. I had thought that maybe it would cost less that have everything shipped at once, but it really doesn't save more than $5 or so... So I was going to just order bare minimum I could get away with, and order more if I need it, vs. buying too much and having leftovers (and spending money on stuff I don't use).
