Pre-Tail Nightmares?

So, I'm going to be getting my first silicone tail from Finfolk soon (woo!), but lately I've been starting to have a lot of nightmares.

~The first one I ever had was one where I think I was at Merfest and I was talking to Raina and Iona (even though it was a dream I felt so honored and excited and it was a fun time), I expressed that I was excited to be getting a silicone tail soon and I wasn't sure what to expect, Raina offered to show me her tail so I could get an idea about the weight and feeling. I felt the weight, but then her tail began falling apart in my hands and my dream ended. (I apologize if you're reading this Raina, but safe to say, I'm never touching your tail now ><)
~The second one my tail came and it slowly began to turn into a fabric one the more I looked at it. Weird...
~And the last one I just had last night, my tail came with dozens of rips and holes in it. It felt so real that I nearly panicked when I woke up.

All of these nightmares are beginning to make me scared for my tail, even though I know in my heart everything will be fine.
Has anyone else or did anyone else ever experience nightmares like these while waiting for their tail? or am I alone one this one? :$

I've found in the last couple of weeks I've been having nightmares about it, too-- and I don't even have a tail ordered yet! (Still looking for people who take custom neoprene tail commissions) I keep dreaming that I order my tail, and then something happens to the maker and I never get my tail and I'm out a whole bunch of money, or I get it and it's all the wrong colors and the paint is bleeding all over the fabric and coming off. The worst one was about a week ago, when I dreamed I'd saved up for like, ever, and was finally getting the chance to leave the island and go to Merfest and was SUPER pumped, but then when I got there everyone was kind of judging my tail and I heard a bunch of people talking about how it wasn't as good as everyone else's or that I wasn't a good enough swimmer, and so on. It's had me super nervous about ordering a tail ever since! :(

Ladies I think we all go through when we get our first tail. I don't remember my dreams but I do remember before I got my first tail I woke up sweating an nervous about it. I would call them tail jitters. ( LOL ) I believe your just nervous about your first, which is very understandable of not knowing what to expect with your first tail. @Varasai; I have met the ladies from Finfolk tails an they are fantastic at making tails so with them I don't think you have anything to worry about. @ Tieri ; With your tail about having to commission somebody to make it for you is another story. For somebody to make your tail without knowing if they have made tails before or not which can get a bit scary, plus with all that money going out an not knowing if the person whom you pick to make your tail is going to stab you in the back or not. Your fears can be justified. You will have to be very careful on who you pick. So I would say at this moment you just be patient. When you are ready you will know. Have faith all things will work out in the end.

I had a dream that I was making a silicone tail and the pieces were disintegrating like candle wax, all brittle like. It was so awful that had serious second guesses about making a tail :/

Geez, those are some bad dreams :( That's awful. I always have worries that people are judging me and/or my tail, but it's just my anxiety talking most of the time. I'm sure everything will be okay though, just "Tail Jitters" as Anthony said, haha. :)

Yea, definitely just a bit jittery about the first. :) I've heard nothing but good things from the Finfolk girls so I do really trust it'll be okay, it's just tough to get past the stupid silly nightmares. Thanks so much for the support. :)

Oh my god, that was like the dream I had about holding Raina's tail. Everything just fell apart, I felt so bad. They're awful dreams, :( but don't have second guesses about making tails! It's probably just the little bits of doubt in your subconscious that come through, just like my nightmares.

I had pre-tail nightmares, now I have post tail nightmares :P Though not nearly as often! I think it's natural for us to have them. The tails not only cost a chunk of change that we work hard and strive long to save for, but they mean a lot to us because of what mermaiding in general means to us.

Lots of my dreams involve it not fitting anymore, large holes and tears, and the silicone crumbling away, paint coming off half the tail.. I've seen my latex and neoprene tail fall apart until it was just a complete mess, so my brain likes to take that and apply it to my silicone tail, but amplified, in my dreams X_x

But yeah, at least you're not alone in that for sure!

I've had plenty of pre-tail nightmares! XD Wrong size, wrong colour, unswimable! haha! Thank goodness they are only nightmares!

Happy to know I'm not the only one. I have to send in measurements in the next few months and I'm so scared I'm gonna screw it up somehow. Im surprised I haven't had the "wrong-size" nightmare yet.

Totally normal! I think brides have the same nightmares about their gowns!

I was wonder, how many having the nightmares have handled something silicone before and known it was silicone?

Maybe the "turning to fabric" and "disintegrating" nightmares are partially because it's a very expensive item, but you have no idea of what to expect with it.

Like, fabric and neoprene, both those things people usually come in contact with long before ever thinking of a tail. But silicone? Not so much. Even for regular cosplayers, latex is still the industry norm it seems (I find a lot more latex things available than silicone), so you don't have much to equate it to. So you touch it in your dream, it turns to fabric - because you know what that feels like. You hold it in your hands, it crumbles, because other rubbers do become brittle and crumble with age.

Maybe touching something silicone so you have something to recall in your dream later will help? Places that sell nice cookware have silicone pot-holder things. If you go there and ask for them, someone there should be able show them to you, and then you can touch it, flop it around, stretch it a bit (not too much though, because you don't want everyone in the store to think you're going crazy ;) ) and pretend it's a piece of your tail, or something. Maybe then when you have the dream again, it won't turn into such a terrible nightmare.

Not sure if that's even the problem, though; or if it is, if this idea would work, but maybe it could help....

I had a nightmare last night that I went to this gig I have next week. The people were super rich (they live in a richer town/area) and their house was a huge mansion, but it was chaos and I was running late. They were neglecting the kids and I couldn't get alone to get into my tail.. my hubby was helping me get it on, when their kid ran up and started pulling with all of his body weight and the tail ripped to pieces. It was completely destroyed, and I had a breakdown on the spot. Also the people would not compensate me for it, so I just sat on the floor and sobbed hysterically until my husband helped me get out to the car to leave. I was super sore when I woke up from how tightly I clenched my muscles from that X_x

Oh god I had another nightmare! I had finally gotten my tail in the mail, was super pumped, and I was going to go to Merfest, packed everything up and got on the plane to go down and was super nervous but excited... And then it was only when I got to my hotel that I realized I forgot my tail at home!

I was so upset when I woke up, like almost in tears, and when my boyfriend asked me what was wrong I was like "I FORGOT MY TAAAAIIILLL." He kinda stared at me for a minute before he said, "... You don't have a tail. Are you okay?"
