Hi! My name is Miah and I'm in the process of making a mermaid tail and top and some other things :3 I'm brand spanking new to the MerNetwork so be patient with me :D
umm my tail is inspired by a beta fish picture I found on Pinterest and my tail is being made with hand sewn on scales :3 (and yes I will be sharing my methods, every single one!) I don't bite and if you have questions or want to talk just go ahead and leave me a message :) love and good fishes, ~MerMiah

Thanks so much :) it should be done by the time we open our back yard pool (I think at least, I am usually optimistic about things)

Shure thing :) pretty soon I'll have a HUGE information dump, I just have to test some things and clean up my math a tad

Ok, well my tail is going to be a fabric tail with scales sewn on to it with a sculpted fluke :)
and then here's the fun part the fluke :3 I found a plastic putty you can make from styrofoam and acetone (but you must be VERY cautious) and I will be making a "skeleton" with us and then casting a "skin" over it with laytex :) (or silicone which is stronger?)
and it will be dyed/painted to look something like this

Your design looks lovely, your sculpting and working from even the most-basic level is impressive, and I like how the inspirational fish for your tail is also your current avatar!
I would recommend DragonSkin silicone; it's the best! :pearl:

and thank you so much :3
dragon skin is probably what I will go with for my second one for sure :3 but I am slightly broke at the moment :$ haha I'm still doing research on tear withstandance

Hi, Mermiah, and welcome! Judging by the description and the pictures of your design it sounds like you have plenty of original ideas. :)

Yes, it can be painstaking having a cool design without the funds to further it to fruition. :pearl: Latex may be cheaper, but silicone is better in pretty much every case. If you like your design on a less-expensive tail, perhaps you could use it when you can afford DragonSkin silicone; or maybe by then you'll have a new idea which you like even better!

Yeah :3 I think you actually have me convinced (that and another family just asked me to babysit ;)) so I guess dragon skin it is!!
For my second I want to make the skeleton glow in the dark and the silicone be clear :) like a translucent fish :D (but I'm getting WAY ahead of myself :3)

Why thank you :3 I think my brain just has this thing where it decides to never do something the cheap/easy/right way :3 (but in the long way I think this tail is pretty cheap :3)

Should I post a new thred on just the plastic scale technique or should i just put it here? I don't what to clutter the forums :/ but also I think that it would be very helpful to the mer cumunity it's SOO cheap and (pretty) easy so I guess I'm just wondering if people would be annoyed with me if I started a forum :3

Starting a new thread for such a cool technique should be quite acceptable. Just post it in Tail Making or something to that effect. :mermaid kiss:

Ok exciting update! I was able to construct the stuff that my fluke skeleton is going to be made out of and so far it's responding great!!
It was held in water (cold and warm) for lengths of time and no changes!
I am able to add pigments too it the only thing I don't know is how well silicone will "bond" with it if I were to make a skeleton with it and mold a "skin" on around the skeleton but for now I'm happy with my results :)
