My name is JessieMermaid and I'm from Mobile, AL. I'm new to this whole mermaiding thing even though I've ALWAYS wanted to be a mermaid. No, I don't have a tail yet. Been looking at MerNation. I've seen the Mertailors but he's expensive and I wand a full silicon tail. Um IDK what else to put here, but if anyone has any specific questions I'll be more than happy to answer them.

Hello! I think that a good way to get a mermaid tail is to look at making it yourself, it's cheaper and is fully customizable! Though a really good shop to get a sili tail is at Merbellas, or if you are just starting out, FinFun is a great place too. I would recommend using a fabric tail at first to get the hang of swimming, because even though sili tails are pretty and provide a lot of propulsion, they can be a hassle to carry, swim in, and pay for, some weighing as much as a 12 year old child! But anyway, welcome to the site! I hope you enjoy it here

Hi, Jessie! I just got my MerNation tail last week, and I love it, BUT I really HIGHLY recommend you get a fabric tail for your first one. MerNation makes fabric tails, too, if you really want to go with them. But there are also a number of great fabric tailmakers out there, Like Magictail, and others. The other option is that you could make it yourself, or ask a sewing-knowledgey friend/relative to help you!

So, how did you find out about mermaiding?

Jessie Mermaid Dottie is correct. If you really don't have the experence in a tail then I would say a fabric tail would be best for you to start insted of going full silicone for your first tail. There are many options for fabric tails an so many makers as well. There is a list of makers for tails. I would suggest you read this first before you decide to buy a silicone tail http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?3123-⚑-The-Reference-Thread-⚑ Welcome an enjoy.

I actually have a monofin that im practicing with.

As for finding out about mermaiding, I actually found out about it when I was looking up the wikiee watchie mermaids. A google search pulled up the mertailor site and it snowballed from there.....lol

I've been reading a lot on the forums about starting with a fabric tail to get the feel of it. Read through quite a few tail making threads and then I found PerlieMae's tail and I am TOTALLY flabbergasted at the how intercity, time, money, and creativity she has! I really don't have the patience for it...... LOL. I still want a silicone tail but for now I am just gonna practice with my monofin and look at doing a fabric tail to practice with. Then maybe one day I'll make my tail.......:thinks:

Haha! Hi Jessie! My tail is like that because I'm insane.

I agree with everyone about starting in a fabric tail, but once you get your fins wet and can't live another day without a silicone tail, don't forget the new tailmakers around here, too! There is some real talent to be had, and significant discounts because they are trying to break into the biz!

Enjoy your stay here!
