Hello, Merfolk of the World!
I'm Nicky. I don't have a Mermaid name yet, but it's not important. I don't even have my fins fully grown :D Everything in it's due time.
I come from a beautiful city of Liepaja located ashore of Baltic sea in Latvia. It is a city of wind and weaves caressing the whitest sands you've ever seen on the shores of Baltics. But I have left this town seven years ago and came to Germany, where I live now in Hannover. Here I study Informatics and... now I swim. I've always been a water child. I loved the waves, the taste of salt on my lips. Despite that I've never been a good swimmer. I'm capable of keeping myself on the surface and staying out of trouble, but now... I'm not sure what triggered my new passion. My boyfriend gave me a pair of bi-fins and off I went with them in an empty non-swimmer pool. Half an hour later I was already in the deeper waters... And a month later my first monofin arrived. It is about half a year already since I've started growing my fins :)
I am currently in process of sewing a costume. Just plan fabric to get a feel of it. Now I'm positive about sticking with Merfolk for a long while! I was in many ways inspired by Mermaid Melissa. I as she also have a passion for all living creatures: not only in the oceans, but on land too. I figured it would be great if I could inspire people to respect nature by getting their attention while swimming around as one of the mystical creatures. It is not a common hobby here in Lower Saxony, so the chances are pretty good :) I'd also like to take part on a water rescue course and join DLRG. DLRG is a non-profit non-government organisation with an aim to aid people in water either by providing lifeguards at pool or coast, or teaching little kids to swim. It is great to have the possibility to train with them: we have a nice 12,5 meter pool and only three or four people train there. The DLRG guys say I'm great with my fins and I'm really proud of it! :$
So... That's about it. I still have a lot to learn: do more sophisticated tricks, hold my breath longer than a minute and so on...
This was taken last Monday by my boyfriend. He said if I'm going to do this longer, I'll have webs between my fingers and gills growing in no time :D

By the way, my monofin is Hydra from SoDive or Sweammer (but it has to be a fake one, because there is no logo on it and it was too cheap, much cheaper then elsewhere).
