(I didn't know where to put this thread so I put it here :P)

Why don't more people have grey/white tails? Is it because its just plain and not really colorful and outgoing or is it because if someone saw you in the ocean they probably would hunt you down.
This is a random question that just popped up in my head lol

I'm actually thinking of doing a white tail because I'm very pale skinned, so white looks good on me!(:

No i think the color of a tail is just personal choice... maybe people just don't look at a mermaid tail in their heads and go hmmmmmm I think mermaid tails should be grey. *shrugs*

Yeah its probably just a choice, my personal dream tail is grey/white like a shark

I think it's just a personal choice..I mean I'd love to have some silver details on my tail, yet, not the whole tail to be grey or white. So I assume it's just a personal choice^^

It's a personal choice! Mine is black, for example. There are mers with white tails I've seen, it's just not common. Blue and orange seem to be the most common from what I've seen.

Like others said, it's a choice. I'd love a blue tail but the first I'm going to do will be silver :)

lighter colours especially white are among the hardest to pigment in terms of silicone and latex. It takes many more layers to be sure they aren't see through

Mermaid Natalie and Meridian Mermaid are the only two I can think of off the top of my head that have solid white/gray colored tails.

I think grey can be really pretty if it's done well. I liked the look of this one by the mertailor. It's definitely not for me but it's still very unique and interesting.

There's something I love about grey/silver tails, they're just so elegant and ~realistic. If I manage to get a tail from Raven in the future, it'll definitely be grey :)

Whenever I see a grey tail, I think of Megladon.

Or Megladon's modern cousins... The sharks!

Its great if you swim in an area where there are no sharks, but once they see you, they might think "Ooo yummy! A giant bite sized snack!"

I have several white tails, a snake and a draconian among them.

as soon as I finish my current project (a 3D-scale krait tail), I'll start a silverwhite dragon/serpent tail with 3D scales. :)

I like white and silver but grey persay... not really my thing personally.. then again for me im not like most.. im not happy with just some solid colors at random. I'm personally about pattern and texture on a tail and realism!

That person looks like they've been snorting coke in every photo I see of them. Lol the shine under their nose drives my a.d.d. nuts lol

LMAO @Raina it's not a shine under her nose it's a white pearl nose ring xD
I hate it myself... a pearl hanging from your nose... nice yes... lets ALL have white pearls hanging from our noses like boogers... it's SOO fashionable... NOT!

Augh is that what it's supposed to be?? Thanks for saying so because I never would have guessed that lol. I thought it was like... a tissue stuffed up there to stop a nose bleed or something. She looks pretty roughed up.

I actually really like that editorial, she looks so other worldly, like she really could have flopped out of the cold grey sea. :)

I hate that nose-ring she has. The could have positioned the pearl ANYWHERE on her nose; instead, they stuck it right under her nostril like a huge, shiny booger.

I really liked it too. It was very different from the typical pretty mermaid on a beach. I didn't like the pearl nose ring at all but the rest of it is pretty cool.

I could see lots of options for a realistic gray tail; leopard seal, wolffish, and french angelfish come immediately to mind.

I absolutely LOVE grey tails. My dream tail would be an irredescent grey/silver tail to go along with my freshwater mermaid persona. We've mentioned before that not many mers have grey or white tails so I think it would be really fresh to see one come out of fin folk or merbellas studios!!!

I didnt' even notice it was a nose ring...I thought it was a dirt speck on the lens or something.

My first tail was grey and it wasn't supposed to be. It's just that it was very difficult for me to find neoprene fabric and when I found it, it was either black or grey I could choose from. And I added blue, black and silver details :-p

I made a silver spandex tail for a friend a few years ago. :)

While I personally don't like grey tails, I think they are among the most realistic looking when done properly.

I dream of making a white tail someday... :) Probably neoprene and some translucent fabric... I also like silver, and some shades of grey as well!

Before the red drum tail called my name, I contemplated making a black & white swirled tail patterned after the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

So I have a little story I've been writing and my mermaids are completely pearlescent white/silver aside from their eyes. They're colored like this to reflect and absorb the colors of their surroundings. Perfect camouflage! I'd love to make a tail based of of them someday, but it would be tough considering it would have to be super thick material.

Edit: Oops, I just realized this thread was dead before yesterday...

I am currently working on an all white tail. I was thinking of making it into a koi and adding some orange, but I'm not sure yet. As it is, I am working very slowly. :/ Maybe I will be able to swim in it this year?

I saw a color palette on pinterest that was several grays and pinks, which I thought would be pretty in a tail.

I have several tail designs of blue or green fading into grey. I love grey tails! :D

I think I like the ones that are really metallic looking. Maybe they don't photograph well but the Mertailor ones just look like a flat grey and not a silver. I think I am most inspired by Atlantic salmon when thinking about a pretty silver tail design. My problem is I love so many different colors I would not be able to settle on just a silver & white tail with bits of black. Although I guess that is what owning multiple tails is for. :p
