I came across this really cool cosplay tip on how to make webbed finger gloves using spandex and spray paint

So I was like "wow that is actually a pretty epic way to make webbed hands easily...wonder how it turn out if you put silicone over it, added some scales and stuff."
But can you put silicone on spandex? would it bond right and set right and everything?
what do you guys think?

I'm not so sure about putting the silicone over it...what about making the inner part in neoprene(a thin layer) and using latex over?

I did something similar to this (sewed a webbed hand out of thin spandex mesh) then covered it in a few coats of liquid latex. It pretty much turned them into a pair of rubber gloves. I've swum in them a few times and they work pretty well (though, in the water I did have some problems with them falling down. Will probably need to put some kind of strap at the top to keep them up. The issue is somewhat rectified by adding wrist fins)
The only problem is the latex reduces the stretch, so you need lube to get them on and off now. My big fat hand just doesn't like to fit through the thin wrist area.
Liquid latex dries fairly clear in thin layers (thicker layers are more of a fleshy peach) so I'd imagine it's possible to paint the spandex then latex over them.

I kinda want to avoid using latex if i can just cause when i finally get around to making my silicone tail i want to to match as much as possible
so the questions is could you use silicone? if not then latex it is lol but if you can I would love to try.
Exdraghunt, how exactly did you go about making your gloves?

I imagine that it would work just as easily brushing on silicone, as long as there isn't anything in spandex that inhibits it's curing (since I have no idea, you'd probably want to test that on a scrap)
I bought some mesh spandex that decently matched my skintone and sewed gloves like in the tutorial. Then, while wearing the gloves, I started brushing on layers of latex with a paintbrush. I probably did 4 or 5 layers of my entire hand, letting it mostly dry between each layer. Once it was dry, I "painted" it with pigmented latex, then I used some cornstarch to peel them off. the latex soaks through the spandex, so it's more like a rubber glove with the spandex providing extra strength and security against tearing.
I then cut open the side seam and added the side fin (which I cast in a plaster mold. I imagine you can also make side fins as in the tutorial and brush latex over them. Just stuff them with something waterproof), though I need to go in and redo that. Adding the fin made the gloves smaller, so I've been ripping the seam trying to get them on without lube. (with lube they slip right on). I'm going to replace the seam with snaps to see if it helps.

I think you can, you would probably want to sorta "soak" the fabric in silicone before you sew anything and then attach any scales or fins after because silicone sticks to silicone. Yay. I'm no expert but I THINK I'm right about that.

Well, by painting on my latex, it soaked through the spandex (since the spandex I used was pretty thin, so it had lots of holes for the latex to get into), creating essentially a latex glove with a layer of spandex in the center. This way, I didn't have to try and sew through rubber, and it cured into the shape of my hand. The seams are also almost invisible. I'm assuming silicone has similar properties as latex (latex also won't stick to anything but latex), and if so it shouldn't be necessary to soak the fabric before sewing.
For reference, these are my gloves before I added latex

Oh okay that sounds good. I haven't actually worked with silicone but I've been doing a bunch of read etch and I think it Gould work the same way :)
