So I got an Ariel Green tail from finfunmermaid a few weeks ago. I haven't swam in the tail, but I did sit in my tub with it. Now I'm thinking this is my fault...the bottom of the tub is rather rough. When I got out and took the tail off, I noticed on the rear where I'd been sitting, the sparkle had rubbed off, and had lost some of the green. Note this was only on the rear and maybe about five inches long and a couple inches wide where my butt would have been sitting in the tub. Should I inquire from finfun if this tail is defected, or is it my fault for sitting (and doing a little moving and splashing) in my tail on a rough surface?
I don't recall where but I read on here that the pattern with scales is low quality and being phased out by those who use the fabric.
The rest of the tail is perfectly fine, very sparkly and awesome. I have swam in the monofin and loved it. Can;t wait to use the actual tail!

Well it may be your fault, but you should inquire about how it was painted. What kind of material is it?

It's neopprene and spandex if I remember the tag right. Here's the page for it: http://www.finfunmermaid.com/shop-mermaid-tails/adult-and-kids-mermaid-tails/ariel-green-with-monofin-option.html
2tails also uses it under 'true sea green'

Oh ok yeah. That type of fabric is notorious for losing sparkle and color. You have to be careful withit.

It's not neoprene. It is just plain spandex. What happened is when a rough surface is rubbed on that type of fabric the shiny will come off. My daughter has the same tail an did the same thing. It's really not you but both. it has to mainly do withthe fabric.

Allrighty, thanks for the responses. I'll just have to be very careful on rough surfaces and not wear it in the tub, as amusing as it is.

I have the same one myself. They do rub off and loose the very bright green color if you sit on it often. I only ever use mine to swim, so the butt isn't rubbed off yet, I did order a purple top and the Ariel Green bottom. The bottom has lost the pretty green where I sit (scales still visible, they're just faded and not as bright green), you can see the difference when compared to the tail. That is due to me using the bottoms a ton and sitting on the edge of the pool or warming up in a spa after a swim. I also have the Caribbean Orange tail from them, it's still as bright as the day I got it. All the wear and tear on my Ariel Green is due to my own use and I'll probably replace it every couple of years (as long as they make them at least).

What is their monofin like? Is it plastic or polycarbonate?

It's not neoprene. It is just plain spandex.
Sorry, I meant to say the tag says nylon and spandex.
The monofin has a plastic insert. It's really floppy, but it has decent speed. Very easy to swim in, and the floppiness gives it a certain realistic movement (depending on your idea of realism).

I have two of their tailskins - one is the Pirates Gold and the other is the Caribbean Sunset. I have had both for several months now. The Pirates Gold one is a bit thicker, and feels rougher. I am starting to lose some of the shiny holographic 'scales' on it, but I mostly swim, not much sitting for me! The Caribbean Sunset one got bleached by the chlorine in the pool I was swimming in, so instead of being orange and yellow, it is more coral and white, but the gold holographic 'marbling' is still holding up nicely! This tail feels smoother, more like swimsuit material. The monofin is a layer of plastic between two pieces of neoprene, with a couple of holes to put your feet into. It is very easy to put on and take off, kind of like putting on socks. I also like the fact that it is sort of a 'one size fits all' - I wear a womens size 9 wide, and my husband wears a mens size 6 wide, and my brother-in-law is a mens size 10, I think, and we all wore it with no problems. The monofin also floats, so I have gotten a weight belt to wear with it to help counteract the buoyancy from myself and my monofin.
I have heard that the fabric with the scale pattern does not hold up as well as some of their other materials, but I have been happy with mine so far!
