I've been curious about everyone else's mersona so here's a thread where you can write it all out and share your character's story!
My own mersona is still a work-in-progress, but I'll post her story as soon as I finish writing it out!
In case you don't know how to start, here's a little skeleton you can use, but you don't have to use it if you don't want to:
Character's Name:
Any Nicknames:
Where are they from?: (if from somewhere other than your location)
How long have they been captive? (if a performer or if you just want to put it)
Their Personality:
Their History: (can be long or brief)
Anything Else?: (anything else that you missed)
**EDITED: I added a question to the skeleton, "how long have they been captive?" since I noticed some performers say they've been captive for however many number of years or months.

Ooh well I will be watching this thread because I need ideas for my own. (Not that I would copy anyone of course)

Great idea! I have a backstory for mine, but it's been abstract - i.e. still in my head - so now, I will have to flesh it out into some kind of order. :mermaid kiss:

I'm still trying to flesh out my character's personality, I don't know if I want her to be shy and kind of flirty or mean and rather evil. I like both sides and can do either one fairly well, but I don't know which would be more interesting and fun. I also want to give her a name that corresponds to her personality, any ideas?

OOH I'VE BEEN WANTING TO TALK ABOUT MY DARLING FYRE.
I'll kickstart the persona chatter. ;)
Okay so; Mermaid Fyre is an extension of my soul and the physical embodiment of bipolar disorder. Here is what she roughly looks like;
19752
She dwells in the darkest of ocean trenches and surfaces very rarely, and when she does so it is only to prey upon human men (she has taken a tooth from each man she has destroyed and now wears them proudly on a necklace made from torn fishing net). Fyre was born in the darkness and has lived in such for so long she has lost most of her sigh and the pigmentation in her eyes, but she does possess an incredible sense of smell and hearing. She can't speak, but does communicate in a variety and purrs, shrieks, whistles, and screams. Her tail is a deep, bioluminescent red and stripped black, and she has a set of gills on her ribcage. She swims much like her favorite ocean companion, the hammerhead shark. Although she is a loner, Fyre does enjoy swimming with swarms of the hammerheads and helping them hunt (usually other mermaids). She is emotionally unstable and her moods will often change very rapidly; switching from curious and carefree to wrathful and violent at the drop of a pin.
More than anything, Fyre is simply an ocean predator -- a violent, beautiful ocean predator who lives only for destruction.
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT. MY DARLING FYRE. I'm planning on using her in my novel. <3
Thoughts, anyone? :p

Very interesting character! Beautiful, deadly and highly unstable :) I love the picture by the way.

Oh, I like this! My mersona started out as a comic character based on the style of the cartoon, Adventure Time. My gf and I would doodle little comics with our alter egos in them. I ended up adapting her to fit my real mermaiding persona. Here's her original bio and sketch:
"Seraphina Suds is the princess of the Ocean Kingdom. Her palace is gaurded by narwhals and often sneaks past them to visit Prince Caramel at the waters surface. She does this as frequently as possible, so long as her father hasn’t confined her to the palace for tipping over sea cows.
Likes candied seaweed, exploring, and hot air balloons.
Dislikes storms, fizzy drinks, and when time is left on the microwave
Quirks include enjoying sucking the air out of bubbles through a straw and being scared of getting sucked up into a waterspout."

She likes to explore wreckage and other dangerous crap, so her style takes a steampunk flare. Clock faces instead of shells, gears as jewelry, yadda yadda...

Oh cool! I love steampunk stuff and a steampunk mermaid would look very interesting :) The picture is really cute too, I can totally see it as an Adventure Time cartoon.

Here's another thread about the same thing: http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?1290-Mermaid-Personas&highlight=mersona
Mermaid Hales was always told that humans didn't exist, until one day she decided to surface and find out. She found humans, especially children, to be extremely fun and interesting. But humans are also hurting her home by throwing all their trash and chemicals in the ocean. Not only is she here to play with and entertain children, but she also really wants to tell them how to protect the merpeople in her home. :)
