My First Tail Attempt!

I have fabric for the tail base and a special plastic that I'm making scales and fins with. But I'm unsure what design to use?
I really want to try my squid tail, with it's tentacles and reverse-fluke, but I want to start scale painting tonight and I don't know what colors to use.
I'm leaning towards a clownfish tail because I can start tonight, I have plenty of black too.

See, I don't really have any money to spend on it, just work with what I have. And I want it done soon so I can bring it with me for my nine days in Cali this summer. (special medical education program I'm raising money for.)

But, it is a squid tail, so maybe I can get away with a bunch of random scales? Opinions?

A squid tail? that sounds interesting! do you have any images or anything so we could have a better idea of what a squid tail would look like?

I knew I forgot something! Yes, this sketch, I drew most of the tail, but cowgirlmermaid drew the fluke for me:

The tentacles are cemetrical, I was just lazy and didn't want to draw them on both sides.

Color changing paint in little dots like the way squid can change color with their dots.

I think you should go for it! The squid thing sounds AWESOME and I haven't seen one yet :) so it would be very personal and original :D

you know, I have some spare time on my hands, if you want me to sketch up a picture of your design to help you visualize I would love to :)

Of course! I'll post pictures and updates on the whole project.

I don't think I'll be able to get color-changing paint, though, I do have some multi-colored glitter I could put between the paint and plastic.... That might work....
