That looks like so much fun! It makes me miss swimming as much as I used to :\
Also, your pool looks fantastic! I wish pools around here were that cool XD.

Awesome!

And yes, I am super jealous of your pool! (The one I work out in is only 4.5 feet deep and it will be months before my lake is warm enough to swim in!)

Makes me wanna get my fins wet! Is that pool for diving? I've never seen a 90° dropoff before

Gotta say, I would love a pool with a 90° dropoff... I always run face-first into sloped pool bottoms!

Its pretty deep all round to be honest I can only tip toe on the shallow end and I'm 5ft 1". The deep end is 5m deep (15ft) Its a pool that was just recently built near my house but no one seems to have discovered it yet other than one private dive company I work with. We have quite a few pools specifically built for diving in Phuket with this 90 degree drop off but they are no where near as deep or large as this pool ! Ive fallen in love with it ! Plus the water is so clear ! not like some of these other pools around here ! Also will add that it is not a chlorinated pool its slightly salted ! which is much nicer on our eyes !

That's amazing! I would swim there till my arms fell off XD

I would love that pool. the deepest I've found near me is maybe 5ft at the deepest. And that was a cool video. I like how she took her tail off underwater, it reminded me to practice being able to take my tail off while freediving in case something happens

Yeah it was some self rescue skills we practised incase of emergency - Im hoping to develop my course into a presentation and 3 day program so if any of you lovely mers would like to come train sometime hit me up ! I have done a couple workshops sort of like this but felt they were lacking in certain areas and am trying to improve and develop one of my own - working on it at the moment so ill keep you up to date with what I come up with also Syrena and I have been discussing an ASIA Mermaid meet up/gathering and I would like to offer the course during that time. ( will make another thread for that subject ) x

Yeah Amanda is so comfortable in the water - she has a breath hold of 1min 25 - so just goes to show a long breath hold doesnt make or break the mermaid, you can still be an awesome mer with a shorter breath hold !

This looks great! Did you train her on everything shown there, or did she know a lot of it (eg: flips, kisses, etc)?

Mermaid Melanie

Hey Thalassa - Thanks ! Yeah everything Amanda performs in the video was what I demonstrated to her first ( I now realise I should do a demo video lol )

So relaxing to watch, and I love the monofins in those two videos! Can you tell me what the brand is?

Mermaid Melanie

Hi SeaChange ! Thanks glad you liked it, i love watching anything underwater, like you said very relaxing ! I use two brands of fins the squarish ones are the Hyrda which Amanda uses in her truing video and the other is a SpecialFins Dolfin ( I am waiting for my new special fin to arrive thats got a carbon kevlar blade, but its been a long time to wait this time )

SeaChange
08-23-2014, 10:58 PM
They both look gorgeous and so elegant! Which brand do you prefer? I peeked at the specialfins website and it looks like the offer different degrees of fin rigidity (also you can put your own brnading and images on them, how cool is that?).

Haha, I've been running underwater videos in the background while I draw at work. The bubbling noises are really calming. Maybe I should think about a little studio fish tank...

Mermaid Melanie

I love my special fin it gives great propulsion and i have the soft blade but the carbon kevlar fin I've ordered will be way stronger and faster but also harder to use in the water so it will be great training for my legs ! Always love the sound of water but id always advise against fish tanks, could always get a little water feature though !

SeaChange

A water feature other than the AC running over sounds pretty good!

Is the monofin Amanda is wearing in the first video you posted the same as the one from your dive training diary? Was it custom cut? I love the fishy shape.

Mermaid Melanie

The mono fin amanda wears is the Hydra in the videos but I train with my custom Special Fin mono fin - love it a lot but its going into my silicone tail this week and I'm waiting on my new special fin arriving ( same shape different blade - carbon kevlar blade )
