So I just bought a used handmade tail from Mermaid Bonnie aka Music City Mermaid. it's a sequinned tail and I bought it for my company with the intention of having it as a back up tail. Well, no sooner did I buy it, but Mimi's tail (my old mertailor) bit the dust pretty hard. So we decided whether it fit her or not, this tail would be one she could use with the company and if we needed to make minor alterations so it'll fit we will. (Mimi is over 6ft).
So the tail arrived today just barely a week after sending Bonnie money (I seriously can't believe how fast it was) and we surprised Mimi by meeting her at a production she's starring in (Arsenic and Old Lace) She plays an inspector and she was still in her regular clothes (no costume) when we found her ;)
I have to say, I wasn't always a fan of the big sequins from what I'd seen online. But clearly I was wrong. Pictures do not do these sequins or this tail justice. I am absolutely floored by the craftsmanship and detail and just wow. The tail is used, but honestly it's hard to tell. Bonnie sent us with a baggie of replacement sequins which was awesome! And a top (though it's too small for us, Nessie will be using it)
The tail has a belt, fringes on the side, a zipper up the back, a zipper on the fluke (both totally hidden) and fringes on the fluke. The colours of the scales are amazing and I am shocked at how they look in real life. All the zipper areas have velcro too to help keep things closed. I'd have never believed you could do all that and make it look good, until I saw it.
We don't have a monofin for it yet, we just ordered one in Mimi's size.

It's a bit tight on her and a wee bit too short so we're going to do some minor alterations to make it fit her. We are also gonna add some more sequins :)
I can't get over how nice the sequins are in person!
