Hi, Merfolk ~

I'm delighted to join this mer community! I am a singer-songwriter/filmmaker/fish trainer. My husband, Stu, and I are the founders of Neptune's Keep (www.neptuneskeep.net (http://www.neptuneskeep.net)), the world's only fish + humans quartet. We are dedicated to promoting ocean conservation and animal welfare through entertainment.

For several years I've been making music with goldfish and dancing with seahorses, so I've felt like a mermaid for awhile. Now I am taking the plunge into professional mermaiding! It seems a natural extension of our performance art. I've written several mermaid songs, and these, along with other water-themed tunes, form the basis for our new show, City Beneath the Sea. Stu and I will appear as Mermaid Dionea and Salty Stuart the Pirate for landlocked concerts and typical mermaid-in-water venues/events.

In the meantime, Neptune's Keep performs locally in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and we have a web concert coming up on April 27 - probably the world's first live-streamed fish music concert! I'll post a more detailed notice about it soon. (Moderators, where should I post that?)

I've just ordered my first tail from Once Upon A Mermaid on Etsy and can't wait for my mer transformation! When I was a child I swam mermaid-style all the time, and I truly believed that if I wished hard enough, I could become a mermaid. It took 50 years, but my wish is finally coming true. I'm very excited to begin this journey!

Oh my Gosh Diane WELCOME!!!

Your work is awesome. I've only dabbled a bit with fish music but I've really wanted to continue my project further. I currently use Arduino hard ware and some basic processing software. My goal was to make a musical interaction with the fish.

I would love to pick you mind about Goldfish behavior. Below are links to my Aquarihum prototype, let me know what you think.

Sincerely,
Mermaid Lulu

Lulu, I'm curious, does the Aquarihum have any form of filtration or aeration? Also, is it meant as a permanent home, or as a temporary enclosure?

Hey, Lulu! This is very cool; very similar to what I do. My experience in making music with fish leads me to think that goldfish have an innate musical ability. Mine play their instrument Piscician(SM), quite consciously, and they learn to make harmonious musical choices in much the same way that human music students do. I think every goldfish owner should make music a part of their fish's life! I'll be interested to hear how your project progresses, and I'd be happy to offer input if you'd find it helpful.
