Hello,

Who out there already has a Size Large Oceanika/Mahina Merfin and could describe the sizing?

I have been wanting to get one for a long time. I saw the announcement that they are expanding to release "adult sizes". So I'm wondering if I should wait for those, or try the Large.

I noticed that Mahina's site says the Large Merfin will fit up to a US size 8. I'm a size 9, but when I use the foot-length chart they have for sizing the Merfins, the length given for the Large is _exactly_ the length of my foot from heel to longest toe. So it sounds like it would fit, but I'm wondering if I should be concerned about the width/height for tightness, enough to wait for an "adult size". Hm..

Anyone have some experience with the Large that they could share about? How did it match up with your shoe size?

Thanks

I have size 8.5 feet, and the merfin fits me pretty well. I don't think that width is a huge problem either. Your toes may get a bit squished, but there's a bit of vertical room at the end of the foot pockets to move your toes up and down.

That sounds pretty promising. Do you wear fin socks with yours? Is it a tight fit?

Thanks

I would wait for the adult sizes, I have a large and it squeezes my feet making it unbareable to swim in :(
I'm a size 8

I'm a size 9 to 9.5 and I couldn't get my feet in mine at all. I had to cut out the toes and cut slits in it to get it to fit. It is a large.

Yikes. That's really good to know. I'd better wait for the new sizes. Thank you both for the great info! Sorry it was like that for you.

I'm a size 9-9.5 and my feet fit perfectly into an Oceanika Merfin. I have a large one.

I'm a size 8-9.5, and the foot pocket opening was so small that it was near excusiating for me to get my feet in and out of the pockets, I ended up cutting them open about an in or so and that's made it more bearable although my toes still crunch at the end, I would wait for the adult ones, every time I shuck off my fish butts I have red lines on my feet and have to stretch really good after, in the beginning I had a near constant bruise when I had just that tail, and now I just have 'mer human transforming scars :-)'

Yeah my feet are covered in scars from my oceanika too! I had to go on antibiotics because the blisters got infected! The things I do for Mermaiding!

I have somewhat narrow feet, so that might be a key factor. I normally don't have issues with Asian shoes because of this. I was one of the first people to get it, so I figured I'd 'take one for the team' and reviewed it (the video was uploaded to an older account of mine, so Not sure if I should upload it to my current one or if it's not worth it...). I recommend getting the rubber wet first (ie: putting the tail on in the pool) to make it easier. But yeah, no hassles from my end. Best of all the merfin folds sideways on itself for ease of toting around, just lovely. :)

I have feet that are probably average to a tiny bit wide. So I couldn't even get the front part of my foot in. :( But all fixed now.

I've read of people who made that toe hole bigger by cutting it out so their feet can go in.

That's exactly what I ended up doing.

With some people saying that they are a size 8 and the Large Merfin was still too tight, it sounds like the Merfin sizing might be one of those types that you should order in 1 size up. I wonder if that will be true for the new 'adult' sizes as well.

I managed to get my Large Finis Competitor used on ebay, and I'm so glad that I had found advice online to go a size up. A Medium totally would not have worked.
I wonder if maybe a Medium would have worked if I had narrow feet, but I'm more towards wide.

I wish I knew when the new sizes are going to start selling, and if the announcement that Urban Outfitters is going to start carrying Merfins in the US this summer includes the new ones or not. I never get an answer when I try to ask. Urban Outfitters has not responded to any of my emails either.

I have the size medium, I got that one because the size should have been just right according to their measurments. Go one size up. I had to cut the toe holes larger to make room for my big toe. I wear thin spandex socks with mine and it's comfortable in my tail for swimming, but still...I'd be happier with a large.
