So why in the making? Where to begin. How did I find out about Mermaiding, well it was a string of chance happenings. I'm a furry and while I'll admit birds are my main interest, I've been on an aquatic vibe and have recently been role playing a shark character. I've always reserved a bit of love for sharks, and sharks need love too right? (not that I'd ever try to hug one) Out of curiosity I went looking for a tail, found the Mertailer site and spent the next little while squeeing at the pictures. The next day, quite by chance, I saw an entry in a furry forum referring to mermaiding by name, had no idea it was a thing at the time. So I checked out videos, found this place, but have held off joining until now in case it was just a fad. Originally I was giving myself a few weeks before joining here, it has been 2 weeks now and I feel the 3rd week would just be a formality. Now here's the big thing, at this moment in time I can't swim, I can keep my head above water but that's it. It's not that I have a fear of being under water, I did start lessons when at school but not long after I changed schools and the lessons stopped. That was a long time ago and I've never found an incentive to learn, until now. So that is the 'wanting a tail but not being able to swim' awkward moment ticked off already though I'll be seeing about lessons soon to remedy that. In the mean time I'm going to be trying some of the breath holding exercises, I figure the sooner I start those the better. Honestly, my interest in this has taken me totally by surprise, I saw some videos and decided right then that I want to do this, but as you now know, I've quite a way to go and for now it's going to be one small step at a time. It has been quite an interesting couple of weeks, have learnt a lot thanks to this site, now know where I'm getting my first tail (Magictail) when the time comes and what my personal mer tail looks like, that last one actually came to me quite easy. Also feeling reassured to see other guys in my age group here, was expecting to find mostly twenty somethings. Other stuff about me: I'm a slightly overworked coffee machine engineer from south west London (Uk), a bit of a petrolhead with an interest in astronomy, falconry, photography and goofing around with high voltage. Also looking at getting back in to horse riding (English style) this year. Thank you if you made it this far, I'm not always this verbose (thankfully) just had some ground to cover. I'll probably just lurk for a little while unless I can add something to the conversation.

Thanks for the greets. :) Almost doesn't feel right to call myself a Mer at the moment though, especially when I see what others here can do, maybe when I can do more than keep my head above water that will change.

Hi Squall, welcome to the network!

"birds are my main interest" Nothing is more like flying than swimming! Just think of the water as really thick air. :D

Welcome, Squall, and most certainly you can call yourself a 'Mer'! It is a state of mind, as well as actually being able to put on a tail and swim around! :)

Thanks, I feel better for knowing that. I should have know better really as I see this a lot in the furry community, newcomers think they can only be a furry if they own a fursuit. Then I go and make a similar assumption here, oops!

You know I never thought to look at it like that, thanks.
