I feel like I've seen a post by Raina somewhere with tips on this but maybe I'm imagining it. Any tips for it? I just got some really nice ones from Melusinah's shop and I'm afraid I'll be yanking hair all day with them. :P

I've started buying things that have less parts to them because I feel like I have torn out half of my hair due to tangles with earrings and hair pieces. Stuff with smaller parts seem to attract hair!

<3 I thought that Might have been you :)
usually when I wear my earrings I wear clips or a head dress to keep my hair as clear from them as possible.

Oh I can also suggest beautiful braids as well :) Those are always a go to. :)

That looks like a good idea, now I just need a hairclip so I can wear them. I just knew there had to be a trick to it. :P Do you just wear the clip on one side and that's enough? I'm thinking I could always wear it in the back with both sides pulled back and that'd probably work fine. I was planning to wear them today...I might be able to find a clip though, just not a mermaidy one.
I also wish braids worked well in my hair. Braids with curly hair just don't seem to work well for me. :P
(But, by the way--I LOVE the earrings! I will definitely be taking some pictures whenever I do get to wear them. :D)

Would you be interested in simple large bobby pin style clips similar to/like this one?

It's really pretty, but bobby pins don't work well in my hair. Barrettes are best at containing it.
I edited my above post also. :P

YES! THIS! Also, be very careful with your starfish. If they aren't properly sealed, you run the risk of them falling to pieces when reintroduced to water.... i have seen it happen. Same goes to sand dollars and sea fans.
NEVER put a sea fan in water, unless it is a BLACK sea fan species and even then should still be properly sealed.
I work with pretty much all natural shells. A lot of people dont know these sort of things...

Oh yeah, definitely no starfish. I have plans for a jewelry piece involving starfish and to avoid the whole problem I plan to just cast them in silicone. :P

Silicone sticks to hair like crazy! Cast the mold in rubber and make the starfish in resin!

The silicone starfish would be for a bracelet, not a hairclip. But that's definitely a good point to make for future reference. :P

I highly suggest putting some kind of swimmers spray or conditioner in your hair before you swim to help avoid those issues. I find it helps me TONS, cause my hair is long and prone to tangling. It use to get tangled on my hair clips, earrings, and even tops and necklaces but a little bit of slip from putting some product or oil in your hair is the way to go! I use Ion's swimmers spray cause I color my hair and want to protect it specifically from chlorine, but any conditioner will do, or even coconut oil.
I forgot to do this once when I was doing a shoot, and I had to switch from my head dress to hair clip cause it was getting massively tangled. I was such a mess I ended up having to yank two chunks of hair out O_o You can actually see a chunk floating in the water at 1:32 in this video (not viewable on mobile, stupid youtube..). (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gitk79jlutM) Greg was calling me Merida at the shoot, I think this picture (https://www.facebook.com/MermaidIona/photos/a.507765385961681.1073741826.375567172514837/509484429123110/?type=3&theater) covers it lol

Oh wow, that looks like it was painful to yank out of your hair. o_o Does conditioner really help to keep it from tangling while swimming? I never would have guessed so. I'll definitely have to try that, although my mum is too paranoid about me wearing such long earrings in the pool (she's afraid a little kid might grab them and yank my ear) so I might not get a chance until I move out lol.

Not sure about everyone because hair is such a different thing for different people, but my hair is fine long and prone to tangling, and it makes a definite difference for me! You could just try your regular conditioner and see if it helps. If it does maybe think about getting a swim spray version in the future. Good luck! :)

clips and bobbypins and soaking hair in coconut oil first! but it still happens anyway, just resist the urge to yank em when you're in the water.
