Posted another abalone crystal necklace :) I love this design so much I can't help myself from making more! Just an update- sold my first original headdress prototype. It was just really cool becuase by chance I had a buyer before I even finished it! I gave her a bit of a discount since it's a prototype, but I'm sill very confident there won't be issues with it.

There are peal strands that are adjustable and detachable. This one has three strands that go over the top of the head, and also can be worn with the strand going across the forehead for a circlet style look. I can be worn with over the top strands, the circlet strand, both, or neither. Also the way the strands attach you can forgo the pearl strands and use other things- anything that has a loop or something similar to hook onto.
I actually was inspired to do the circlet look by Raina, as she sometimes wears two hair clips then strings one of those shell necklaces (made with tiny strung shells) across her forehead and drapes them over the clips. I just thought that was cool and wanted to do something like that :)

Little update- my first passes at resin sand dollars for use on accessories :) Going to experiment tomorrow with taking the dremel to them to smooth the edges and holes a bit. These are about an inch in size.

I've been eyeing that too. Amelia's headdress is also reading that the last place it checked in was LA on the 15th. But I know as much as you know. Only things I can think of is that 1) It's being held up in customs going out of the country or 2) It's left the country and the tracking info hasn't been updated since. Sometimes with international shipping once it leaves the country they don't update the tracking info, and you just have to wait few-several weeks to see if it turns up. Sorry, but I don't have any control over that :/ I could get better tracking for international orders, but the shipping would have been $45.

Thanks so much! :) I'm pleased with how they came out- really glad all that detail was picked up by the mold! I'm using silicone to make the molds and epoxy resin to cast. A few hitches, but I didn't expect something like a tiny and thin sand dollar to be perfect for casting.
Issues so far is the holes that are bigger on the back side making for demolding issues (even after I trim them on the mold a bit) and them being so thin I have to heat the molds beforehand so the resin will cure fully (which sometimes it doesn't and I have to scrap those). Lessons learned last night was that I'm going to have to trim the holes on the molds and hand cut the holes on the cast piece the rest of the way (xacto knife or dremel) as well as clean up the edges, that I need to leave the molds in the oven to keep hot, and only take out 2-3 at a time and cast those with a tiny amount of resin, and of course be careful with demolding. I might try a little bit of Vaseline on the holes of the mold, see if that helps. Just do 1 or 2 to test so if i have to scrap it it's no big deal.

Sheesh, after these pain in the fin sand dollars I think the ease of doing starfish will be welcome ;) Then again I might have to do a 2 part mold for the starfish becuase of their curvature.. guess we'll see!

You know, I wondered why I hadn't done a chandelier necklace since my original one that I did with shell beads.. I forgot they are a colossal pain in the fin when you're doing beading rather than chains. I'm horrible at charging for my time- I pretty much never do, and always charge based off of the pricing of materials. But my husband saw me struggle with that thing for.. god, I think it was 4 hours off and on?- and said that if I charged any less than an extra $5 for my time he'd be super pissed :P

Thank you! I wish! Sadly the portion of the Puget Sound I'm in doesn't have much in the way of shells. The barnacles are the only thing locally I've been able to salvage for use, and those I made a mold of (can't use real barnacles for accessories, they stink to high heaven :P). Everything else I buy from shops or order online.

I would love little mini sand dollar post earrings. Not sure if you could find a sand dollar that small to make a mold, though. One interesting thing about rigid neoprene, as opposed to resin, is that it shrinks 10% when cast. So you can start with a larger object and then make successive molds from each cure-shrunk cast until you get the size you want. It's a tedious process, though.

Yay! I'm so glad it arrived okay :) Yes, I think that once it departed the LA facility it was handed over to international shipping companies, and they chose not to (or couldn't) update the tracking. Been slowing down lately, and after I list some more things this weekend, I'm taking a bit of break. I'll also be taking down my sand dollars and possibly any other made-to-order products. This is becuase 1) my best friend is flying next week for 2 weeks, and since I very rarely get to see her I'll be spending all my time focusing on her. This may or may not involve some down time with crafting, so I may have some more items to list, I may not. 2) I have several projects that need more attention for a bit. I have a trade project that is overdue for finishing up for one that is very time demanding. Also a local healing fair that I'm helping organize, will be volunteering at as a fairy (need to work on that outfit as well), and also need to make items for the raffle. Lastly I need to start preparing a new tail and other details for Faerieworlds in July.

Again, only temporary, but I thought I'd give you guys a heads up!
Also I have a limited number of sand dollars available for purchase on the listing, and after they're done I may not be relisting them. I may just sell them on my accessories, or possibly throw up a grouped listing (selling in a set lot, not individually). Turns out they're WAY too much work for what I'm charging, and I found myself hating it after several orders. They just need so much detailed work, and I've cut my fingers up tons doing that. So just a heads up on that!

One more thing- I can't find the pearl strands that I've been using any longer. I got more, but they're much smaller. There's one pair of seagrass and pearl earrings left- after that those with that particular pearl strand will be done. I'll be listing the seagrass and pearl and the baby kelp and pearl made-to-order earrings again after things slow down, but they'll have the different pearl strands.

ETA: If I may be so bold to suggest, please consider having an option for international shipping (the EU and Canada for example, if the "Everywhere else" is too much for you). It has been commented on Etsy forums that many customers don't bother asking for a quote for shipping to their country; they just take their business somewhere else where they can just click and purchase. My mother is one of them, since she can't speak English.
If you are worried you are going to be short on shipping for certain destinations, just ask for more in advance. You can always return the excess through Paypal.

I could probably do that! It just depends on your price range. A while back I wanted to do the same with those colors, and the red abalone and pearl pieces were more pricy than I'd like. But if you're okay with things being painted or artificially colored (like red glass pearls) that would knock the price down a lot. Just listed a clip on Etsy! Funny story- you know how I said I've been really stressed and busy? Well, with that headdress I was only able to work on late at night (after midnight or 2am), and I actually glued pieces for the 2nd half of the headdress on wrong :doh: Obviously I clipped that side and re-did it. But that means that I have an extra hair clip to sell :) It's still unique though, as the original shell colors were a purple and blue gradient-type coloring.

Reactivated some of my custom listings :) I'm not putting up the sand dollars for now, as I need to catch up on backlogged orders. I know some of you have been very patient with me, since I was gone 10 days with only a 2 day break between 5 day ventures (and I had to attend to my household- note: 9 loads of laundry in those 2 days haha).
Also I've been suffering from severe and increasingly frequent headaches the past few months that has kept me from keeping on top of things. I went to the doctor and was told that I have classic tension headaches. So, stress induced, and the more stressed I got about being behind on orders, the worse and more frequent they got. I get them 3 days in a row sometimes, at least several a week. So that means I can't do anything but lay in bed and hate every light and sound in existence. I got some medication filled today that's prescribed specifically for busting tension headaches, so hopefully this means I can get back to full productivity :)

Yeah, everyone tells me that :P I've basically been keeping track of how much every single pearl, every shell, every thing of fake seaweed costs- so I don't over or under charge- but not calculating for my time at all. I guess I just feel like mermaids are already broke and no one would buy if I charged too much ;) I'm starting to charge more for things that take a lot of extra time to make though. I think that's fair :)

I thought they were migraines too! But I went to the doctor and explained everything, and he explained to me the physical differences and causes between those and tension headaches, and thus why migraine meds wouldn't work for me. He was actually really great in explaining it all, which- thank god, cause usually doctors like to blow me off! And thank you :) I hope my creations are worth waiting for, but I still always feel SO guilty when I get behind! I hate making people wait!

Aw, that's so sweet! ^_^ Sorry for the wait- turns out the fake plants I use to make the earrings are seasonal (spring-summer), and they were all gone at my local stores! I ended up having to order them online with a site that had a really high minimum order, so I'll have LOTS of stock now, haha ;)

Just an update to let everyone know that I will not be taking any custom orders or top orders (I've removed these options from my Etsy) until further notice. I've just been too ill to handle them, especially in a timely matter (due to the frustratingly unpredictable nature of my health). I'm expecting to move to a new house soon, but after I get set up at my new place I plan to list ready to ship items when I can :) If we snatch the house we have our eye on I will have a whole room to myself for my crafting space, which is pretty exciting!

I was super pysched about a Gem Fair this past weekend, then I learned they moved it from Seattle to Oregon so I couldn't go and get all the awesome stuff I wanted to :( I might have some ideas for more unisex necklaces that could work well, though :) I just get caught up in all the frilly shiny stuff a lot haha XP

It's the polished abalone shells that I'm having a hard time with. I found someone who has them, but the shells are x8 more expensive than the ones I had gotten before :/ If you have a supplier I could take a look at I'd be very grateful if you'd pass the info on to me! PM me? :)

Quick question, do you take custom orders on the sand dollars?

I do take custom orders on the necklaces, but as for the sand dollars themselves- I use to sell them on their own, but honestly they take so much time and work to make that I don't do that anymore. (Plus drilling bigger batches like I use to sell sends me into a fibro flare in my arms.) Honestly I charge way less for the necklaces than I should considering that, but everyone tells me I undercharge all the time anyways :P But if you'd really like some, I think we can work something out :) PM me and we'll discuss!
