Once upon a time I worked at Sea Life Park in Waimanalo Hawaii on Oahu's, ( a cetacean & animal prison) & was like a lot of the other clueless humans not understanding how incredibly wrong it was. Just like most I just wanted to be close to them. I'm not proud that I worked there at all, but it did open my eyes, & it completely changed my views on places like that. I saw first hand how wrong it is to hold these beautiful & intelligent beings captive away from their home & families. The little pins that they are stuck in when they are not being forced to do shows & interactions are so small with bars just like jail. While working there in the photo department I saw it all! Frustrated dolphins raking each other, trainers & guests being dragged down by one dolphin in particular (Ahi a younger male) & causing serious damage! Whenever a dolphin would attack someone I was ordered to edit that out of their video. Sea life park doesn't get sued when this happens, because people have to sign a liability form, because the establishment knows this happens! The year that I was there about 10 years ago, the dolphins told me to help them, & to be their voice. So thank u Sea Life park for the opportunity that ignited the fire within me to stop this barbaric & selfish human practice of enslavement for entertainment. ‪ (https://www.facebook.com/hashtag/shutdownsealifepark?source=feed_text&story_id=1499573150262419)Please sign this petition to tell Roberts Hawaii ( A tourism company) that captivity of cetaceans is wrong, & to take it out of their tours!!! #ShutDownSeaLifePark!!!

Aww, that's unfortunate to hear. I had applied for an internship here just recently...not that I got it. I wanted it partly because like you I wanted to be close to the animals, but I also figured I could help make life better for them if I worked there instead of someone solely interested in making money off them. Guess I'm glad I didn't get it now. Working at a place that keeps wild creatures caged up was an ethical issue that occurred to me when I applied, same with the Honolulu Zoo, which I used to go to all the time when I worked at a daycare. We took frequent trips there and the animals always looked so sad; all of the exhibits are so tiny. :/ Especially for the elephants. Gah, I want to better understand wild animals, specifically marine mammals, and learn about them, but other than nature videos or working at these types of places it seems like there's no real alternative. We can't all be Hannah freediving with whales. I'm just not at that point yet.
