Lol.....big splash eh? I don't see anyone talking about this at all except for Eric's groupies on facebook. News for you, that's not the mermaid community.

If Eric's newest project's entire profit is going to generate funding and awareness for a HIV/Aids foundation (and I mean entirely), then I think that is a very cool idea and it would be great if it works out.

Chris, there are hundreds, MAYBE thousands of people talking about it. There are celebrities promoting this on their personal and fan pages that have over 5,000 fans each. And I believe that anyone that is a mermaid enthusiast and swims around, even with there legs together in the pool using their imagination, that they're apart of the mermaid community. There are no tests of regulations that must be past to become apart of the mer community.
Spindrift, a percentage of the calendars profits will go to the organizations for HIV/aids awareness, but a percentage is also going to the photographer and reimbursements for the money that is coming out of Eric's pocket to make this happen. I think either way, he is helping a cause that needs all the help they can get! :) So either way it's a good thing! Whether he's giving it all or a percentage, they will have more money than when he started his project.

And one of the celebrities is close personal friends with Jennifer Lopez, she is a very large celebrity to anyone and everyone! So I'm sure her pull for this calendar goes VERY far.

Reimbursements are fine. I just don't think it's fair to really call it charity if the person is still making a profit from it (and doesn't say so). And I know that others may disagree with me - that is perfectly reasonable. Yes, you're right that some money is better than no money. I just think the way I do because it could be misconstrued as a ruse to self-promote oneself. Do you know what I mean? It's really only in that circumstance though.

Spindrift is right, it's doing nothing for the general mermaid community. This is how I feel about it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GXzknyVQ8I

I think RuPaul is hilarious :D I've been wanting Top Model to do an actual mermaid shoot for a while- they did one before with these loosely constructed tails but I think it would be amazing to see them have to model underwater in a realistic one. But yes, I agree it should be highlighted a bit more that a "portion" of the cost goes to charities. Though, I do completely understand how expensive it gets to make something like this become a reality I am a very poor mermaid because I am constantly offering my services for charity and putting out my own money so I can collaborate. I always collaborate with my photographers too I try to make sure they're getting as much from the product as I am. It's a tricky tight rope walk. I dont personally see the calendars as doing anything for the community but if it raises awareness about HIV then I think it's doing something for that community.

Well I know that this is going to get the word of "Mermaid" out to the public more and maybe you might all be able to get something out of this calendar too! Because if celebrities are in mermaid/merman tails, it will make it the "cool thing" to do and then a lot of people might want to hire "mermaids/mermen", I just got hired as a mer performer in St. Pete FL so it's already doing a lot for me! :) And honestly if you guys wanted to I can tell Eric to post something about the MerNetwork on the actual calendar so that people can get more involved in the community :)

Chris just letting you know this post was reported. The tone in your response is not appreciated. I understand your statement (I had not seen any talk about it outside of the Mertailor FB Fan Page myself), but try and use more tact.

Winged, I believe you're mistaken. I don't see any inappropriate tone in Chris' quote. He was simply stating a fact that Eric's mates don't realistically represent the merfolk community. Fair go..... :S

And I agree. Yet I have to keep the peace here. (No one said my job was easy!)
