Strangely, I am not the ones telling others that I am a mermaid. Those around me who know are the ones to usually pipe up with it.

Usually people 1/2 understand it then as they notice other stuff or I show them more pics they fully get it and think it's cool. Until they really get it they just think I have a few screws loose.

I have yet to swim in my tail, I have worn it twice at home, I just can figure out how to post pictures here or else I could show off the tail itself and me it in. Back on topic, I have told a couple family members and a few friends. My mom's was okay and actually said that if it helps me swim better then she is all for it. My friends reaction was the typical cool. No other questions from them.

Hahaha, I love gifs! I try to always bring up a photo on my phone so I can show people what I'm talking about when I say I'm a mermaid lol

I avoided telling a lot of people about me getting a tail (until after I physically received it), mainly because of the cost..... :eye twitch:
They wouldn't understand my love for all that is strange and the lengths I'm willing to go to obtain them :lol:

I didn't tell my dad until waaaaay after I got my tail and had some work under my belt to show for it, so he could at least see that it's not a toy and I'm doing something with it.

Those gifs are hilarious and so true! I've begged my mom to stop telling people when we're out doing other stuff just because of these looks that we get. Most of their reactions would be much different if they happened at the beach though. Most people find it awesome when they actually see someone mermaiding instead of just hearing about it.

Haha yep seen those faces before for sure! I recently had my high school reunion and as I walked pass a girl she screamed at me "oh mermaid your awesome, my niece loves you" she turns to the other girls she's standing with and says "did you know Amelia is a mermaid?" And they are like WTF? (Insert funny gifs here)

haha, I actually don't tell people unless they ask! I usually say I'm an entertainer, and if they delve into more questions I have to explain it. haha! My partner is pretty enthusiastic about telling people, he whips out his phone and shows them photos. XD Most people are pretty "oh wow" and not rude, thank goodness!

I think a lot of people that know me well don't see me becoming a mermaid as a surprise, because they already know how much I love dolphins and feel connected to the sea, etc.
I have only just starting telling people that I'm going to pursue this. This past weekend I told a group of friends and one's reaction was just "well, yeah! of course you are going to become a mermaid!"

my entire french class knows i have a tail because i used it in a project that involved making a movie trailer. after my group showed the video i had multiple people ask why i had a fin so i ended up saying "je suis une syrene" for like five minutes because i dont know how to elaborate anymore in french.

One incident though, I HAD to share!!

So my friend comes up to me in college and the conversation goes:

Friend: Is your profile picture on Facebook photoshopped?

me: No, why?

Friend: You've got a tail in it...

Me: Yup.

Friend: So it is photoshopped?

Me: No

*blank stare*

this is when my closest friend in college piped up...

Friend: Oh...okay then.

Now, that didn't seem that interesting I'm guessing :P but...then this happened.
A week later, I asked my friend who'd been inquiring if she understood it yet, she said yes but it took her a while, I asked her what she meant and her answer literally made me WTF and Facepalm. Okay so this is what she said:

"I thought you were serious and were a real Merman. Like, I thought your tail was actually REAL. Then I was in the bath and I just stared down and thought...if he has a tail, where's mine? And I figured it out then"

Just goes to show...even a spandex magictail is enough to convince some muggles :P pahaha

Haha that's great merman Vaughan! My sister likes to brag about it to everyone she meets which is pretty awesome. We live on an island that has a major pirate history, and she works in a pirate shop, so whenever people come in and say something about mermaids she has to say something about me. But I still get strange looks lol

@ Vaughan I had something similar. So when I came out to him he said he already knew. Apperntly a friend of his followed me on tumblr and showed him. He wasn't a water person so I dumped him. (NOTE: That was a joke! I did not dump him because of his lack of loving the water. Actually we ended on good terms)
