Anyone do festivals / fairs?

Me and hubby are looking into doing a booth at festivals and fairs selling mermaid themed items. For those that already do this kind of thing, can you give me any tips or advice?

One thing I really need to know is how to find out about upcoming events so I can sign up to be a vendor. There are so many of them happening all the time, is there a website that has a list or some way to be notified?

Also any other words of wisdom in this area would be helpful as well. Thanks!

I mostly had to rely on the events to advertise to me. I checked local online classified and kijiji and I like all the local touristy pages on FB and twitter so I get direct notifications about upcoming events so I could inquire. Some things I happened upon by total chance or word of mouth. But I'd set up maybe a google alerts too? That really helps me if I put "festival halifax" then I get stuff right in my inbox too :)
