Nereid's Looking Glass

Hello to all my fellow mermaids!
My name is Nicole and Nereid's Looking Glass is both mine and my mom's user profile... thingy! (I'll make sure to sign my posts and comments so you know to whom you're replying.) My mom's name is Kathy, but she prefers to go by Kat.
Hmmmm.... what do I say next? Oh! I was introduced to mermaids at the tender age of three when I would watch The Little Mermaid on repeat after my dad's heart attack (the heart attack wasn't caused by Ariel, but I certainly didn't help the healing process!). Being in an area thick with lakes and pools, swimming wasn't much but a stone's throw away so I learned pretty quickly. I was introduced to actual mermaids when I discovered the Weeki Wachee mermaids on a TV commercial when we were down in DisneyWorld. We didn't go see them (it was quite out of our way) but it's always been in the back of my mind.
What I hope to do here is connect with other mermaids, get some tips and tricks about making tails, and just have fun! Two of my biggest goals are to make some makeup tutorials that take specific inspiration from fish/aquatic creatures or tail designs (my own or someone else's, with permission of course) and make my three little cousins some fabric tails. They live on a lake and I know they'd enjoy this so much! Oh, and maybe some crafts or jewelry/accessories! But I'll do more tutorials and how-to's with the crafts than sell/give them.
My mom and I can't wait to get started!
P.S. She wants a blue and turquoise mermaid tail. We've tried Inkscribble's Neptune's Daughter game to design something but nothing's really grabbing her. Looking for aquatic inspiration (as opposed to designs). Does anyone have any good ideas?
P.P.S. If you're in the great Cheesehead State like I am, send me a private message! I would love to have mermaids in my area who would donate some of their time to model for the tutorials. Especially mermaids of color! Thanks :)
