So, i have a few random quesitons, and i didnt know where else to post them..

Here goes nothing:

Razor burn and mermaid tails? how doth thou prevents?

When swimming in the ocean, does anyone else get the fear of suddenly sharks?

Does anyone have land exercises that help in the water?

Is there a pod that can be found in Norfolk VA?

Does anyone have a problem with short hair? Im currently growing my hair back out (bootcamp cut, then bob, then pixie, now grown out bob at almost shoulders and not touching it with scissors veer again #sockbunforlife) and if so, how do you manage?

Currently trying to find a foundation that what ever money i earn will go to (fleet and family services etc.) What have you guys found?

I have more questions, but i cannot think of them right now, so here it is!

Thank you for tasking the time to look and thank you even more for replying!

Have a good night all!

I can help with two of these.

Land Exercises - Considering that swimming (correctly) in a mermaid tail uses a huge amount of abdominal strength, working your abs in any way is a good idea. Also, remember to work your low back. It is often neglected when exercising and can cause you unnecessary pain and tightness if it is not properly stretched and built-up.

Foundation - I suggest looking into some of Raina's vlogs and assorted informational tutorials. She has a couple of pages worth of info, some of which includes makeup.

I have short hair. Its super easy to swim in, because you concentrate more on swimming and less of fixing your hair whilst moving.

And you don't get the awful hair in the face like the scary girl in the Japanese version of, The Ring.

I have short hair and my hair does that anyway ireneho =P and you get cream for razor burns, mens stuff is the best since its designed for the face! If its the tail causing it then I would suggest wearing something over the effected area to prevent friction. Not to tight or loose you gotta find a happy medium!

Razor Burn- dont shave before going into a silicone tail. I shave a day or two before. Or honestly, not at all if no one is going to see anything. It can be really hard on freshly shaved skin to be stuck in silicone or latex for a long time with all that sweat build up, water, and or lubrication. I use to get bad burn and irritation so I just don't shave the day of mermaid stuff, and if I can get away with it I wear boy shorts under my tail instead of panties so I don't need to worry about bikini lines.

don't be afraid of sharks. Hannah Fraser swam with a great white. We tend to be bigger in tails than most sharks and most are shy creatures. It's not like you're going to fly to Africa and jump into white shark infested waters.

I've made a couple blog posts and threads about on land exercise to help mermaid swimming.

I was also a mermaid with short hair for a very long time.

i never honestly thought of boy shorts!! haha great idea!!! and not shaving for a few days i'm already used too(under weighs aren't for being sexy, they are for working.. no one to show legs to while working, yah know?) and i follow Ms. Hannah on Facebook(not in a stalker Black Swan kinda way) and her posts the the things that she does for the foundations that she is part of is awe inspiring!

Fleet and Family Services as well as Moral Welfare and Recreation or MWR are both foundations within the Navy designed to help sailors get through long deployments, encourage them to make positive decisions and work through the emotions and distance of their families while away.. Every Service has their own version, and they are really awesome to be a part of and help with! Im trying to go somewhere in that direction, and anti bullying..

With teh hair, i am currently taking prenatal biotin and VIT E to grow it out.. tis a long process.. hopefully one day it will finally catch up with me and i will wake up with Rapunzel hair.. I understand the convenience of short hair and water, but i feel naked without it lol

Since posting this, land exercises have been the only things ive bee allowed to due do the being stuck on the ship 24/7 and i'm doing more ab workouts and of course balancing out those exercises with the rest of the body etc.. and drinking more water! though, today was not a good day to stop what i was doing every two seconds when trying to work.. or be in the middle of the ocean for that matter(ALL of the water!! -___-)

Anyway.. thank you again!! Awesome advice that will be taken and cherished for further use!

How do i become a member of the pod? I've come to understand that it is HIGHLY encouraged to meet the pod face to face before venturing to become part of it, but with the distance that i currently hold, do you think i could get away with joining and then meeting up with you all later? I'm going to start posting more pictures so i can show progress of my tail and stuff, i know for some of these forums, that's required to actually be an active member(MandoMercs for example), but if not, ah well, i'll do it anyway =)

I really hope to meet you guys at some point though!! Its always a great thing to be surrounded by people who share interest and will help build you up and being able to help build them up as well!

Anywho, lemme know!! ^^

Glad I am not the only one worried about the shark thing LOL! I was swimming recently and ran into a manatee...let me tell you, it is scary as heck seeing a huge dark moving creature a few feet in front of you and not being sure what it is! Once I was sure it was a manatee though I swam down to it and swam with it a few feet, (they are fast and I only had a pair of fitness flippers on). It was very cool!

I live in Texas and have had sharks come swim around me at the beach. Given, they were small ones, but still sharks. I find it's better to just think of them as funny looking fish. Don't bother them, they generally won't bother you. I may be weird for saying this, but I think sharks are reaallly cool.

Razor burn and mermaid tails? how doth thou prevents? - I wax :) 5 weeks of nothingness!!

When swimming in the ocean, does anyone else get the fear of suddenly sharks? - no, but my area only ever has small sharks and giant whales. But I am afraid of everything I can't see though.

Does anyone have land exercises that help in the water? - STRETCH!! Personally, and it's not for everyone, I run 10-15 minutes before I swim

Is there a pod that can be found in Norfolk VA? - Tukwila, , Washington state here :/

Does anyone have a problem with short hair? Im currently growing my hair back out (bootcamp cut, then bob, then pixie, now grown out bob at almost shoulders and not touching it with scissors veer again #sockbunforlife) and if so, how do you manage? - ask a friend to braid it until you can have it long enough to do a bun. < prior army/chopped my hair too. Don't think about it, it'll grow back :) the less you try to think about it, the faster it'll seem

Currently trying to find a foundation that what ever money i earn will go to (fleet and family services etc.) What have you guys found? - make up forever cosmetic line??

Well, all pods are different. Pods on MerNetwork are basically just things that you join, and sometimes they have meet-ups. You can feel free to join the Chesapeake Pod without meeting anyone beforehand. We also sometimes have meet-ups, which are announced sort of in various places. Merman Ryan is usually the one organized enough to set up meet-ups with Virginia mers. We also just had a meet-up at Lake Rawlings today and yesterday. You'll find stuff out either on here or on Facebook.

I can help with 2, and the land exercises one is pretty much covered—work those abs!

Sharks: Sharks are not mindless, man-eating monsters. They are fish, wild animals that have an unfair reputation. You are more likely to be KILLED by your neighbor's pet dog than you are to even be bitten by a shark. Statistics. Look it up. If you see a shark while swimming in the ocean, consider yourself lucky. We're killing sharks at an alarming rate, and some species may not be able to recover. Also, there's a documentary that is amazing, Sharkwater. I highly recommend watching it. Also, Raina is right about sharks being intimidated by us. Even without the tails, they don't know what to do about humans and will usually swim the opposite direction when they see us. I've been swimming with sharks my whole life, and while I respect them as wild animals and keep a safe (mostly for them) distance, they are incredible creatures and swimming with them is an amazing experience. I'm much more afraid of jellyfish and Man-o-wars, since those are the nasty things that get me.

Short hair: It's been discussed before, but there are LOTS of mers with short hair. Short hair isn't a "problem," it's a style! Now, I have very long hair (I can sit on it) and if you're wanting to grow your hair long, you'll need 2 things: time and patience. Eat well, and be gentle with your hair. A good diet and lots of water can help it grow at its optimum rate, and gentle hair care—it's more about what you don't do to it (bleach, heat-styling, ripping a brush through it) than what you do—that will get you to long hair.
