This sounds like a really great thing, but the crowdfunding is... lacking.

Thoughts?

I think a better idea would be to put the solar panels on rooftops first. It would be a way for people to show their support for solar power. You don't see many solar panels these days so I'm hesitant to believe people would support paying all that money to make entire roadways out of it.

Also, the glass is durable, but why even spend money on durable glass when you could skip that step by moving the panels out of harms way.

Actually many roofs are not suited for solar paneling. It's totally an option already and my dad was looking into it but you have to have an east-west facing roof for it to be very effective. Which is a bummer.

This is such a wonderful idea. I don't even need to explain why, damn.
I asked my family if we could get solar panels for our roof. Some of our family friends have them, and they even get money back from their electrical companies because they provide energy. But my family just can't afford the startup, as much as we all want to. It's really disappointing.
There's lots of politicians in America that even deny that the earth is getting polluted, I'm sure none of them will want to promote so much money into something, even if it could be really great. Imagine everything they said in this video, oh my god. It's so sad. Hopefully, someday the economy in America (and other places) will be good enough that people will consider doing something like this. For now, I want to just raise awareness.

The solar roadway idea is about much more than just generating energy, though it's a fabulous way to do that (just think of all the geography covered by roads in this country). The technology can keep roads clear of snow and ice. It can warn drivers when something has fallen in the road or an animal is crossing. It would have the ability to change road markings and signs instantly without the use of paint. It would provide easily accessible charging stations for electric cars. It is more durable and easier to repair than asphalt. It would create many, many thousands of new jobs. There are dozens and dozens of advantages of this over traditional road surfaces.

Oh man, this would be amazing if it managed to get put into actual practice. But here's hoping something does come of it; they reached $2,200,716 of the $1 million they were hoping to get and got invited to the White House for a Makers Faire.

I LOVE SOLAR ROADWAYS SO MUCH. I've watched a few videos so I don't remember where it was said but the couple has been working with the transportation department for a few years and they've received a few grants as well. It's amazing, and I can't wait for it to happen!!!
