New Tails: Progress

Hey! I see everyone here is doing well and I'm so happy to see many mers making their own tails! I just wanted to give and update and share what I've been doing! For Weeki Wachee's 2015 calendar, I was offered to produce 2 tails! I'm so excited! As well as this, I've been working on customer tails which I will be completing soon. Here is the progress so far! Based of a dolphin fish:

I'm really considering ordering a tail and those custom armfin/webbed hand gloves we talked about when I get my tax return next year!! These look amazing! I would love to see your painting process! I know I posted it on your fb page, but the only thing I really worry about is the color eventually coming off over time. :) Sorry if it's a bother....

Thanks for all the support everyone! It's really hard to make all these tails, do other things, and be a child at the same time! But I have progress of a new tail! It's based off a goldfish and I kind of made it like an ombre sunset as she gave me a say in designing. Here's a sneak peak:

I agree with Mizuko. Your seams are amazing! You make seamless tails way better than Eric. You don't even need darker colors to hide them. Jazz, you have better skills because you practiced to get better and better and for that, I'm really proud of you. Keep it up! I look forward to see your next tail with the h20 style.

Jazz, you have an amazing talent, and your story and commitment to LGBT equality is inspiring. I think you're going to be very much in demand as a tailmaker, and if you set some boundaries for yourself now, I hope you can avoid the stress and burnout that eventually afflicts many popular tailmakers. My advice: figure out how much time you are comfortable with spending on tailmaking, allowing yourself plenty of time for school, friends, recreation, and just destressing. Then set a limit on how many tail orders you will accept in a given time period. If clients understand upfront that it may take many months to get a tail after ordering, they will accept the restrictions.

Give yourself room to breathe, and yeah, to be a kid - even when you're an adult! (We grown up folk need a healthy inner child, too.) If you do, I foresee a brilliant future for you in mermaiding! :hug:

Thank you all! And thanks Mermaid Galene for the advice. I'll definitely begin to control the amount of orders to maintain less stress. And thanks about the website! I actually made it myself. It was my first time making a website though, so there are still imperfections.

Wow great job what are you using on the fluke? A mono fin or just a made one with silicon?

Hi Jazz, I hope you dont mind me asking, but what kind of silicone thinner have you been using for your airbrush? :) And do you recommend any cleaning agents that work great to clean the airbrush afterwards? I love the look of airbrushed tails (hand painting them just doesn't give the same depth) but as for thinning and cleaning liquids that wont damage the tail or clog the airbrush I am stumped!

Jazz, I have seen some of your videos on YouTube and I just want to say that you are a truly inspiring kid. You have an amazing talent that you are using for an amazing purpose. I admire you! mermaidsammi, I use monofins. Mizuko, I use naphtha to thin the silicone. You could also use toluene or xylene. To clean the gun I run mineral spirits through it and I take out certain pieces (needle) and soak it in solvents. I also take this weird brush thing that comes with the spray gun and I use that to get any gunk out:

If it gets clogged, I use tweezers and toothpicks to pull it out! For my first few coats I use a spray gun, and then I'll go back with an airbrush for details.
