I've been searching around the web for a good, not-too-expensive waterproof camera for filming. I'm not very trusting of the waterproof casing you can use on regular cameras because the only camera I have available to me is a very expensive one that my mom owns. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance, my fellow mers!

There's one at Wal-Mart that's a cheaper alternative to the go pro. The resolution isn't as high as a go pro, but it's still good (760 I think? I forget.) I think it sells for around 80 to 90 bucks. We got ours on sale, so you might be able to get it for less.
It's weird because there is no viewfinder, but it's not really a problem. Our videos turned out quite nice. I'd recommend it.

I use a FujiFilm XP60, there are newer versions, and wifi versions. I didn't need all that and it was only about $130 US on Amazon. If you have a Best Buy near, play with them and see how you like them, you may like a totally different one, but can compare!

Looks like the price has gone up about $30 US, but I'd still recommend it at that price.

It's fantastic in and out of the water. It's the perfect little pocket sized camera, I've used it at the beach in ocean water, pools, and just as a plain old point and shoot. I LOVE that it has the multi-shot and how convenient it is to turn it on, I've been able to capture lots of great moments because of it!
Here's an album I put together with some samples of pictures I've taken. I cannot recommend this camera more, it's the perfect little point and shoot, easy to use and figure out, great battery life (though, macro, underwater & Multishots can drain the battery quicker, but even when using that all day, it will last the whole day) and takes great pictures.

I do photography as a hobby, so I use a canon rebel t3. They sell underwater housing for it, but it would cost about 3 times what I paid for the camera! They have other waterproof cases, but I've heard horror stories from a friend of my brother, who took her camera to a reef with an off-brand case and it ruined the camera! This camera will most likely be my "on land" camera for photo shoots. I've heard that it would be better to get the powershot, since it has inexpensive underwater cases and the camera itself usually runs from 150 to 200 dollars. I've also seen waterproof cases for camera phones, and those seem to have good ratings. There are reviews that say that they fog up really quickly, but that can be easily fixed and it does not seem to affect photos or video, which are super clear. Now that I'm done going on about cameras, let me show you a few of my favorite photos that I've taken!
This guy was taken using the kit lens and a 20 dollar macro tube!

It's a cheap camera (300 bucks or so), but it takes some amazing pictures! It depends on the person behind the camera. ;)

My favorite one!

For video I currently run a Sony Z1U and Gates housing ~$12,000.

For stills I use a Canon G10 and Ikelite housing. On land, a Canon 30D.
I am looking at going to the Hero3 Black.
