Yes, another silicone tail...

Seriously, I still can't believe that I'm doing this.
It's hard (and expensive), but I wanna try.
Well, that's the fluke I started to sculpt (I'll fix it tomorrow):

Well, finally I have some photos of the demoulded fluke.

But I noticed some issues in it... like this hole (but it's not really a problem, it can be solved).

And I couldn't prevent these little "air bubbles"

Well, I have some news:

Bad one:

I think I've to stop the tailmaking for now, because I made the fluke in a shool and now it ended. And now I need to makee scales, but I've no space at home and mum said this is not a necessity. So I don't know when I'll finish it. I know, I'm just a loser :(

Good one:

But I'm a bit excited because she allowed me to make a scale top with latex (like Kishiko's) :)

You are not a looser! Making a tail requires a lot of space, and not everyone has that.

I know, I'm sorry if I wrote it this morning, heat makes me nervous >.<

Sorry you can't finish your tail yet /: that's cool you can make a top though! Just be careful with the latex near the silicone because sometimes it will ruin your silicone. They DO NOT like eachother

Thanks for the advice! :) I'll be very careful

*update*

I thought long, I can't afford silicone now and I don't want to wait too much, so I took a decision: I'll buy latex instead of silicone. I know silicone is more strong, but at the end results are the same, don't you think so?
Silicone rubber is 30-50 € per kilo, latex is 20 € per liter. There's a difference!
So, I think I'll take this way :)

Guys, guess what? I'm excited because I've some probability to continue the tail soon! :D I just need a place with space for making the scales, but it is not a big problem anymore!
YAY!

great news that you you should be able to continue. I am looking forward to seeing what you do!

I used scissors and angled them so the scales would have a nice sloped edge and it worked out quite nice!

I've seen :) I tried to do the same thing but it doesn't work well because the foam is too thick.
I think I need something like this http://i2.cdscdn.com/pdt2/2/4/1/1/700x700/fis0078484174241.jpg but I can't find it anywhere; and these adhesive circles https://www.craftsuppliesforless.com/kidscraftsupplies_foamiesstickerpacks.html are not sent in Italy.

Well, I think the only solution is making clay circles.

Mermaid Julz

nope... find a small round cookie cutter... sharpen the edge and go to town....

Mermaid Melanie
06-25-2014, 11:18 AM
Ah I see well I'll be honest I wish I'd done clay instead of foam you can use fiberglass and it's cheaper than shell shock - well here it is anyway - hope you find a solution ! X

Thank you very much for your support, but I think I'll continue the tail on September, when art school will be open again :) so I can also save money for silicone!

Mermaid Adriel

So, I have a few questions about silicone; I'd want to try with DragonSkin, but:
-Does Smooth-On send its products over the world?
-How many gallons of silicone I need? I'm about 5'3. I know this silicone is part A and part B, so 2 gallons. Is it enough?

Mermaid Adriel
07-25-2014, 06:04 AM
I resolved! I've found an italian distributor of Smooth-On products. YAY! :D

*little update* I don't think I'll start this month because the art school has problems on getting the clay, so I need to buy it myself and now I can't. So I must wait a few, but I don't care xD
