Hey! I'm kind of new to mernetwork, and I am planning on making a tail. I already have a monofin made, but I'm not sure what kind of fabrics would be good for a (swimmable) mermaid tail. I would probably be wearing it in a couple of lakes near my neighbourhood, or the pool near my house. Also, are there any specific stores that carry good supplies? I live in Calgary, Alberta, and I can't buy it online. I would prefer something I didn't have to mold, like latex. Thanks!

Well spandex or neoprene will work for the fabric, but for like side fins you can buy cheap polyester fabrics (like the shimmery ones used for costumes http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/27/ave5yrev.jpg)
If your Walmart has a fabrics section you'll be able to find the shimmery fabric and silver spandex/rayon (a good swimsuit fabric)
And if you want your tail to be more professional looking you could always do plastic scales (cut from plastic tablecloth you get from the dollar store)
That's what I'm doing for mine it turns out looking like this http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/05/27/ujysy5uv.jpg

If online isn't an option, latex and neoprene will probably be out of the question as well. It's possible to buy neoprene at a store, but they may not have a full bolt you can buy. I would opt for a high quality spandex! It's pretty easy to sew too. I live in the US, but I assume there are Joanns around there, I would check out there for swimsuit/peformance spandex. Good luck!

I will probably go with the spandex, as long as it isn't too expensive. I have already looked into Joanns, and it doesn't show any in my city. :( Thank you all so much for your help!

Your welcome :3 look for wall marts, or any type of craft store (hobby lobby is one) and if your in a huge pinch you could use a 100% polyester fabric or acrylic (anything sucky and plasticky) but try to find one with stretch to it
