Last weekend I swam in my monofin in a local lake, then the next day we went on a reconnaissance mission to find and look at all the other natural swimming spots in our area. (We're in Hudson, WI, on the scenic St. Croix River bordering Minnesota/Wisconsin.) Most of the natural lake and river waters in this area are stained red with tannins and iron. I would really like to start swimming in my tail in these spots, but I'm a little worried that the water might stain my spandex tail.

What have you other freshwater mermaids found when swimming in lakes/rivers? Do they stain your tail?

I just always rinse with freshwater. I've never had problems, but my tail is rather dark to begin with. I could only really see it being a problem for really light colored tails, like white.

Does anybody know a lake in DACH where its quiet and not too cold?

Great. Thanks! I do plan to make a white tail, but I plan to use it for land gigs and in pools. Chlorine won't be able to wreck the color!

Don't be so sure...chlorine can yellow white things.

Good point. I'll always do serious chlorine detox after swimming in a pool.

The worst thing in freshwater is rock slime.....near impossible to get out of your wetsuit!
