Are there any published authors/ aspiring authors out there? what do you write about? where do you get your inspiration? Have you published anything? do you have any advice for a mer author who had finished her first book and is struggling to beat back the dreaded and highly deadly if not treated writer's block syndrome?

I'm working on a rough draft. I find the best way to beat writers block is to get inspired! Sometimes I Google simple keywords and look at the images. It doesn't work all the time and maybe only works for me, but...

I'm working on things often. Mermaid things, other fantasy things. When I get writers block I just start writing absolute sh*t until I come up with a good idea

I've been published in local magazines and newspapers nothing big. I write everything from fiction to research theories. Writer's block is easy to unblock, layback and daydream. Turn your favorite idea into a movie or comic inside your head and watch it. Afterwords write down what you saw. ^.^

Newspapers, I've got poetry published in books, short stories in books. I've got a full fantasy story that's been collecting dust for the post couple years, I keep forgetting to send to my publisher. And lately I've working on an autobiography style book

Oh, and magazines.

And I agree with Dana. Daydream. Just don't try to force things to come to you :)

What books? What magazines? I'm curious and I like to check out other mer's works :)

As for me, I wouldn't at all say I'm an author- I've just had a few tidbits published in mermaid and pirate magazines. Tail Flip magazine, the Mermaids issue of Faerie Magazine, and Mutiny Magazine. My 15 seconds of fame haha :P
Respect to all you writers though :) I have close friends that write, and I know it can give you bliss as well as drive you to insanity, much like any art can ;)

I'm a writer! I've written three novels during NaNoWriMo and I'm currently rewriting my last one, although at an easier pace. My mom had me writing stories before I was even in second grade. :P

I did NaNo last year, but most of what I write are little drabbles to keep my writing up and decent. Most of my characters are mers, but the stories themselves are rarely about mers. It's just a little part of them like eye color or ethnicity. Just casually, "By the way, Harriet's a mermaid, but we're discusing her relationships with people, so that tidbit's not important right now."

I LOVE to write elaborate stories in private (sometimes with friends) and have been doing it for years. I doubt I'll ever get anything published, but it's still an extremely fun past time and one of my favorite hobbies. My boyfriend and I are co-writing a story about shape shifters, and an after-apocalypse story. I'm currently writing a very big mermaid story with a fellow mermaid in connecticut ;D (it's about the original mermaids and how they came to be and shows modern mermaids as well). She plans on becoming a film director and I'm working on getting my film degree so we talked about turning it into a movie, but right now we're focusing on writing it.
Because college has been so draining I'm having so much trouble with writers block. I wish there was someone to kick back up my imagination to the way it was before I started uni.

i have two young adult mermaid novels I've been brain storming for the past year, but haven't had time to work on them, but now that I've graduated high school I actually have time to write them. Both of them are from dreams I've had recently or just late night thoughts...

I write as well, but am not published or anything. One of my main characters in one of my stories is a merman and since I started college (I'm a film major) I have started adapting the story into a screenplay....then I realized it was better as a television series so I started on that. When it comes to writing my biggest thing is FINISHING what I start :/ I have tons of stories from when I was a freshman in high school that I'm still not done with yet :(
