View Full Version : My New Hydra

I received my Hydra monofin this week from scubastore.com. Though some people have had issues with their customer service, my order went very smoothly. I got just what I ordered, and it traveled rapidly from Spain to Wisconsin. Today I swam with it for the first time. I love, love, LOVE this fin! The blade is so light and flexible that it literally doesn't feel like there's anything on my feet when I swim. The propulsion is fabulous! As some have remarked, the foot pockets are a little narrow, but that's perfect for me; I have long, narrow feet. With my neoprene socks, the fin is extremely comfortable. I got the clear version, so I'll be able to put it in a white tail.
Altogether, a sweet piece of mer equipment!

Ooo! Nice!
What's with that funny layering? Is that the way it came or did you make it?

That's actually the way they come. Its different thickness, creates a really nice flow

yay! I'm going to order a Triton sky blue monofin soon! its good to see that a hydra works well. I'm pretty sure ,but aren't the Triton and Hydra monofins the same?

They are the same, except for the size and colors ;)

Yes, they call the Triton the "junior model," but only the foot pockets are smaller: EU shoe size 34-38, vs. the Hydra's shoe sizes 39-43.

Galene, it looks like we're on the same wavelength because I also got my new Hydra monofin last week as well! I agree with you, I love the way it swims and the flexibility of it. Although I don't know how to compare it to other monofins yet since I have not tried any others.
I will say that my feet are larger (size 10 women's) and I have been having a lot of problems with blisters on my toes. But I have some neoprene foot booties on order so hopefully that will clear up the problem.

I have a Hydra as well. I absolutely LOVE it! The propulsion is greater than anything I've tried thusfar, and I really like how lightweight it is!

I find that my neoprene socks make a huge difference in comfort, Mardoll. I was a little worried that, since the Hydra footpockets are narrow, socks would make them too tight. But in the water, it's a perfect fit!
One of the things that is so great about this fin is that, since it's transparent, I can put it in a neoprene or spandex tail and not have to seal the fluke with a zipper. I'll just leave an opening in the bottom of the fluke and add a little fringe. Then I can use the same Hydra in several tails. Sweet!

We are mermaids. We lure sailors to their death scince ancient times.
This is evedance that mermaids are actually dorks.
We are all dorks of the sea

Actually the junior triton fin has a smaller fin than the hydra but not by much can't remember if the larger size foot pockets has a larger fin than the hydra though I think it does !

I love it! I watched a you tube vid of ig and it looks great, nice, big and fast. I like the fact you don't have to cut ig to get a shape because it already has it.

I have put a little over 60 miles on my hydra lap swimming in the pool... It's held up great. STORE IT FLAT! It will warp if you don't lay it flat after you use it. If you can't lay it flat HANG IT. :D
