Well,

Ive finally decided that it is time to announce my newest project...... My first latex scale top!

So Ive been hard at work (as much as I can between traveling) the last few weeks on a foam scale sheet! I am also going to be ordering my supplies soon.

My current plan is as follows:

Finish scale sheet
Seal with Mod Podge (Other suggestions?)
Mold sheet (Cant decide on a casting material. I have plaster readily available, but Im scared to ruin my sheet. Other options are shell shock or resin, but shell shock scares me and resin is REALLY expensive. What works best for latex and foam in your experiences?)
Apply release agent (Im thinking vaseline because Im using latex and no neoprene)
Cast mold with several thin layers of latex to ensure full cure (I am using Burn Man industry's latex, deciding if I need a Quart or Gallon, but I think quart will be enough. I hope.
After scales are demolded, I am going to airbrush them with tinted latex. (I am most likely going to use the PearlEx Pigments)

I shellacked my scale sheet and had no problem getting the scales out of plaster (the scales weren't reusable, as they came off the scale sheet's backing, but they peeled out of the plaster mold without a problem. )

Did you use anything to reinforce the plaster?

This is another option I'm looking at for making a mould: http://www.amazon.com/Cast-Paint-1001PC-PerfectCast-Material/dp/B0006O87CS/ref=pd_bxgy_ac_text_z

Its basically plaster, but it's stronger than plaster. I also want to reinforce it with strips of burlap. Thoughts?

Okay so good news! I just ordered my latex! (: I ended up not ordering from Burman because their shipping was really high, but I found a retailer that has much lower shipping costs and sells the same formulated product.

Walmart haul! I got some plaster, acrylic spray, foundation (to test it as a pigment for a blended hem) and this super awesome strapless bra. It was on clearance for $5, it has this cool power band that keeps it up really well, it has a little push up in it, and it's like spandexy so it should dry out fairly well! ^.^ I'm going to go spray my scale sheet

Updated design! Added some gold accents, a little more light green around the white, and some vibrant blue scale highlights!

I just ordered my pigments from this place: tkbtrading.com Awesome site and over 250 mica powder pigments! Their sample sizes (6g) are only $1.50! Yayyy!

Okeyyyy so my moulds are all cleaned out (cleaned of any residue from the release or anything) and I'm dirty casting them right now! I'm doing a dirty cast because I want to make sure their aren't any little plaster flecks or hairs or residues in my mould when I do the final cast and because I want to have my technique right! I will post a video once I'm finished ^.^
