Hey guys,
I'm back after a short hiatus because I just couldn't stay away. Though I left originally because I feel so down sometimes that I won't be able to get a tail for a long time. It's hard because I do cry over it. I love swimming and making kids smile and being part of the mer-community. But I don't get the enjoyment everyone else gets, being a fan of Finfolk and Merbellas on facebook, and seeing all the beautiful tails just makes me horribly upset. I'm in the position where I live paycheck to paycheck. I would like to start a kickstarter for my tail but I know that'll never even get me close to $100. I see several of you who get new tails yearly and I get so jealous. I would try and make one, but I know that silicone is a very hard tool to work with and expensive, so if you mess up, it's not cheap to start over. Sorry to be so depressing, just wanted to vent. :(

I'm 31 (32 in exactly 2 weeks), I say this cuz you look like you're right out of high school/in college, I've got a few years on you I'd bet! I was able to get a tail because my financial situation was finally halfway decent, and because I found a deal. If I could have gotten one 15 years ago, I would have but it wasn't in the cards for me then. Someday you will be there too. (and I'm still technically waiting for my tail anyways as it's not even going to be made until July.) Trust me, one day you'll be showing off your gorgeous tail here too!:D
Also there's several fabric tail makers out there, and that is way easier to save for. It's what I have & use, and if I didn't get the deal I got It's still a fun tail and kids still love it!
Don't go to Starbucks (or buy anything else you don't need to), save that money in a jar/envelope/savings account. Even saving $5 a week will get you closer to your goal. Banks usually will even take X amount of money and put it into a savings and you can get a savings account that can earn a small interest.
I'm not going to lie, I'm EXTREMELY jealous of most on here. I mean, Raina just went full blown mermaid and as 2 full silicone tails with another on the way! But I'm where she was at one point. There was a time she didn't have anything but a fabric tail, and now she's going to have 3 silicone tails and a sequin tail! I'm a total pessimist, so I totally get the way you feel. You'll get there eventually. And here's a little comic I love to hopefully make you smile. (http://imgur.com/ula3w) (Cuz I'm a pessimist and my better half is a realist);) Please vent away! *hugs*

I feel ya. I had to put off trying to make a silicone tail because of the expense. I definitely understand tail jealousy. It is hard knowing that something you want is currently out of reach. However, you can do what many mers on here do and make a nice fabric tail for under $100. I've made two tails now. One is my personal tail and one is used by my sister. I think they look awesome and they didn't cost that much comparatively. If you can save $10 a month, you can make one in less than a year.
21285.
Kids still love them, and they bring smiles everywhere I go.
And it is ok to throw a pity party every so often. I know I do! And it is natural to feel jealous. But I believe that you came back because something in you wants to push forward with your mermaid dreams. You can do it.

Thank you both for understanding. You are some great ladies :) I really want one now because I would like to start mermaiding early. I'm moving to Hawaii here in a year or two, and I'd like to have an influence in the community here before I go. I also realize that everyone is going to be unimpressed with mermaids once I move because Mermaid Kariel lives there, and she's so magnificent that no one would really notice a smaller mer. And the lack of Renaissance Faires is almost suffocating. I would have no where to perform unless I did individual gigs, which is super hard to pull off unless you're a professional. I'm starting to save, I already work 3 jobs, but chipping away at the rate I am, I won't have one for at least 5 more years.
Anyway, thank you for all the kind words, you guys are such loves! Really, you have made me feel better about this. <3

Coradion and I run a pod in Hawaii and there is everything from mers that do it just for the halibut to mers that do it for a living like Citrine, Linda Stephanie and I. Would you be moving to Oahu? We always love swimming with new mermaids!

I totally feel you! I was able to visit Maui last year because my husband went for work. He made some friends with the people that he was there to help/train, and I happened to ask if there were any on the island. Nope, none. Just another reason I can only visit. (I own pet snakes, they're not allowed...)

I did the same thing as your doing magickaldj. But then I decide I'm still growing and I don't have the money for a beautiful silicone tail. So just the other day I order a beautiful fabric tail from mermaids of Hawaii. I also live on Oahu and Mermaid Harmony has really helped me with a lot. She told me some of the up and downs to mermaiding, she introduced me to some of her mermaid friends, she told me all the different place to buy a tail, and she even let me do a craft show with her. :) like Harmony told me try to start with a fabric tail see if you really like it then In the future you could maybe buy a silicone tail. I'm just super excited just to be getting my very own tail!!!! Don't worry the mermaid community is great and super nice :) good luck (:

I know the feels!!!!!!! I have a 59in blood-red corn snake and i don't know if i could give up my baby or not, though right now it's looking like I don't have a choice. My cousin Evan is taking him when I graduate.
