Are there any other people here who identify, dress-up, or otherwise do some sort of activity or believe they are, as the title says, a sea being that isn't merfolk? Of course, I am a hippocampus (or you could call me a merhorsey!), and I saw someone with a selkie friend...anyone else?

I identify with sea serpents more than with "classical" mermaids (although in the folklore, mermaids with snaketails and/or changing into sea serpents/waterdragons are very common).
I mostly swim with my snake- or dragontails, even though they do not look as flashy as big-fluked mermaid fins which are more popular with kids.
Since I don't do kid gigs, it doesn't matter though ;)

I'm considering maybe doing an outfit inspired by frog-legged faery women that can be seen in some of Brian Froud's art. In essence, it would be a pair of dark swim fins plus pants with a kind of frog-skin pattern. Of course, I'm sure plenty of people would ask me stuff like "why are you swimming in pants?" or "what are you supposed to be?" but who cares. I'm not a performer.
(Here's a picture of one of Froud's froggie women: http://www.angelfire.com/me4/anjel/ImageCollection.html)
I also like to play "Master of Orion II" with a custom (tail-less) sea people who look human but with odd skin colors (purple, blue, grey).
