Hello everyone, mer and mer lovers alike!
My name is Chandler, but I go by a plethura of other names as well, due to my many mystical identities. However, you may call me whatever name you wish!
I am new to the Mer realm, traipsing over from a land of glitter and wings. I am an animal fairie in a group called the Fairies of the Solstice, who call New Hampshire their home. Before that, I worked as the captain of a band of female mercenaries at a renaissance faire in Massachusetts.
I have always been in love with fins and gills (as a child I would wear flippers and tie my ankles together--NOT very safe, but it was fun!). Now, nearing my 21st year, I have decided to reach for what I love and work on transitioning into the life of a mermaid.
Hopefully, I shall be posting around about making a starter tail, or trying to find a great place to buy one (my dreams of Finfolk and silicone are quite far away--trying to keep realistic!). If anyone has tips or tricks of the trade, please feel free to throw them at me!
I look forward to getting to know as many of you as I can! <3

Welcome! I recommend if you don't want to make one, to take a look at FinFunMermaid (http://www.finfunmermaid.com/) There's lots more fabric tail makers out there, so do your research and see what works best for you, but I have a FinFun and love it!

Welcome Forrest.
There a quite a few mers who are into fairies as well as into mermaids, so you can be both. :)

Welcome! I was amping up to be a ren faire fairy myself before I got totally consumed by the want for fins! I still dress up in fairy garb every now and then though- thus the name Winged Mermaid. There are lots of merfairies around, so you're in good company :) Check out the welcome PM - it has lots of good info and good links, including all the links on the Reference Page (http://mernetwork.com/index/showthread.php?3123).

It was Twig the Fairy (http://www.twigthefairy.com) that started it, for me. Several years ago, I met Twig at a local Renaissance Faire. Admittedly it was her aulos, a double-flute, that intrigued me. I added her page on Facebook and learned of her occasional Mermaid Mondays. That is when I learned of tail-makers like Merbellas and the Mertailor.
A few years after that I stumbled across MerNetwork, admittedly during a Google search for new players for my undersea roleplaying game. I liked what I saw, embraced the community, and said “What the hell.”. Within weeks I ordered a latex tail, with the colors of a coral beauty angelfish, from a tailmaker that has since vanished.
When I was considering a new silicone tail, a friend posted images of his new tail from Finfolk Productions. I was admittedly flabbergasted by the artistry and attention to detail. Another infamous “What the hell” moment overcame me and I ordered my Finfolk tail, in the pattern of the state saltwater fish of North Carolina, the red drum/channel bass.
It wasn't until later that I learned that Abby and Bryn were personal friends with Twig. Serendipity at it's finest.
Oh, should I mention that I have placed an order with Fancy Fairy (http://www.fancyfairy.com) for my first set of wings? :)

Thank you all for the warm welcomes~!
@Caltuna & Winged Mermaid-- It feels good to know I'm in good company with other fae-with-tails, haha. <3 I have been looking through the reference pages as well, and while I am dying to just jump in to a full tail I know starting neoprene or spandex is safer. I'm heading to Jo-Ann's Fabric today to see if I can find a good fabric for myself.
@Merman Dan-- I LOVE Twig, she is an idol to me in the fae realm. I haven't met her in person, being stuck in New England myself, but I am in awe of every photo I have seen. Finfolk is my dream tailmaker, haha. I have such a baby face that I am thinking of maybe going with a jellyfish type of style (not the Man of War, despite that being one of my favorites of theirs), or a fish with very expressive and round faces. My wings are from Fancy Fairy as well! I have the smallest pair, the joke being that my Fairie, Alitura, can't fly on her own. :)

Welcome darling! I just started crossing over into the fae realm from Mermaid stuff (seems the opposite of what most do) but you'll love the forum, Mermaid life is amazing, and a blast. :-)

Just bought the fabric for my first tail (I'm skipping Neoprene until I am more confident in my sewing and painting abilities)!
The colors look off due to my phone camera and crappy lighting, but the blues meld really well together. I plan on using blue for the sides and having gold run down the middle, with the mesh-like fabric coming off the fluke, similar to jellyfish 'tendrils'.

I might make a progress thread to document as I sew and fit. I know I could definitely use any help people have to offer, haha!

Congratulations! Making a tail is fun too! (I've made 2 to fit my FinFun, they're not the greatest as my sewing skills aren't the best, but they fit and look ok) Can't wait to see yours, it sounds lovely!

Thank you! I hope it comes out as lovely as it sounds, then! xD
I created the thread (hopefully in the right place) to track my progress. :)
